Question Looking for tires for 09 Sport

Just bought a used 09 Sport with low miles, yippee! Trouble is it needs tires and I live in a small town. There seems to be only one tire choice available here—Dunlop Sport. No other tires around here are the right size, and these have to be special ordered!

Now I live on a hilly road in snow country. Will these Dunlops do the job? They're not very well rated compared to other brands which are not available here. Do I need to go on a road trip to get tires?

www.tirerack.com

www.discounttiredirect.com

Find tires and ship them to your house, have local shop install? I'd even pay extra for shipping to not get the Dumblops.

If you will stick with oem size, your only option is either Dunlop or Bridgestone. i have the bridgestone turanza and they are not very good, noisy and poor wet traction, plus they are expensive. some Fit owner switch to 205/50/16. You will have more option on this size. Continental dws have good reviews. I'm personally looking at the new hankook Ventus V2 concept, it has good reviews as far as wet traction, tread wear and noise plus it cost only $80, 40 less than the dws.

tire questions

Thanks for the info wanderer. Ordered the Dunlops today, but considering also ordering some other tires from tirerack.com for winter.

If you go with the 205 size, can you use the same rims the car comes with?

Agree that 205/50/R16 will work fine on 2009 Fit Sport. Try Continental DWS. You will see a slight drop in MPG, probably due to wider and stickier tire set.

you've got an 09 so if you don't mind the TPMS light on all winter, get yourself a set of used Integra 4-lug 15" alloys (or Civic) off of Craigslist. you should be able to get them for cheap (got mine for $50 after trade of an unused strut tower brace (probably worth $50). Then mount up a set of snows on them for the winter. The cost to mount/balance twice per year will run you about $100 so even if you spend $100-$200 on wheels, you'll make your money back in just a few years. (you also save money by going to a 15" winter tire vs a 16".)

I'm running Hankook Ventus V2 concepts in 205 width for he summer on my OEM sport alloys and General Arctic Altimax for the winter on 15" integra Mesh Alloys. Mounting/balancing is $60 here in VT so after 1 year, I was ahead of the game.
