summer tire upgrade

summer tire upgrade
Folks my 09 fit LX 5sp (a mid level model here in Canada) needs new rubber and rims.
stock are 15" 185 60 if I'm not mistaken
the roads are not that great in my city
what tires (size) and brand would u recommend? And I'm thinking of gun metal rims (the car is sunsashable blue) - comments on the choice of colour rims are welcomed
I'm looking for tires which will last, hold the corners and am willing to go to 16"
Note I use winter tires on their own rims come the colder months
thx

tirerack.com is a great place to start when you really aren't sure what you want yet. you can put in the cars info and they will take care of all the size details, and they have a cool way to browse wheels showing what they would look like on your car. you'll find lots of user reviews and detailed ratings for all the different tires as well.
I'd assume they ship to Canada, and even if they don't im sure most of the brands are available from local retailers!
I think you would be safe to go up a wheel size too if you wanted. I live in new england, and our roads are notoriously bad. The stock sports are 185/50x16 i believe and they are still comfortable on our bumpy roads. If you are going to get wheels, pick those first, then a tire that fits (tirerack will help with this!) then from your options look for a high performance all season or high performance summer.
Also, there is a whole subsection somewhere on here devoted to wheels and tires, definitely tons of great info on there!

I have the stock Dunlop 185/55 16s on my Sport that are wearing pretty quickly. I do lots of driving and don't like to slow down when going around corners. I'm planning on upgrading to Continental ExtremeContact DWS in 205/50 16s. That size should keep my speedo accurate and improve my handling. Tirerack only has 4 tires available in the stock Sport size, but the options widen considerably when it comes to the 205/50s.
Happy tire hunting

If your going to 16" the Continental DWS's 205-50/16 are really good. I'm very pleased with these tires, wet traction is unbelievable. Had very little experience with them on snow (as it didn't snow that much here), but the little we did get, they handled great!
In 15", I was looking at the Kumho's (Ecsta 4x, or ASX), quite a few owners are pleased with them.
Been thinking about the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08's, after seeing 555 post about them constantly. If you're going for strictly summer these seem great, but a little more $$$.

I think a 205/50-16 sidewall might be too tall. check this thread to see what tire sizes others are using

205/50-16 is within .25% of the GE8 stock size, so it's pretty much the exact size. That size would be too tall for a GD3 though ( I think they would use a 205/45-16).
Tirerack shows the Conti DWS' a little more expensive than the Yoko S.drives, but less than the other "higher" performance Yokohamas. I love my DWS', use them all year round, the handling is great. It's too bad the Yokohama AD08's don't come in that size, it seems to be a really good summer performance tire.

thx
the DWS is expensive
I may go with a less expensive and less aggessive yokohoma envigor or toyo extensa HP 174
note i have my own winter tires on their own rims so these babes wont see the snow/salt

I just picked up a set of yokohama s-drives in 205/50-16. I love them so far! I paid less than 100 bucks a piece. They do most everything I ask them to and feel very stable.
Next time I think I am going to try the advans as well but Ive got a good while before I need to change them over again.
