Overall Mileage Display : Shows 51.4 traveling

16.3 miles after a gas fill . It was at 53 , but a few stop signs and red lights along with a parking lot brought it down to 51.4 . Did another fill after traveling 72.5 miles . The display showed 40.6 m.p.g. and the calculation was 42.84 m.p.g. ( 72.5 mis. / 1.692 gals. @ 1 click of nozzle ) . This was the 2 of us with some very steep hills and head winds of 15 m.p.h.. It's the highest since the purchase of the 2011 base model Fit with the 5 speed auto last April . Anyone else ever achieve 53 or better ?

Try a full tank instead of these short trips.

You could fill your tank and coast half a mile, probably getting 80 MPG or so. But that doesn't mean you're really getting 80 MPG. You've got to do a full run through your tank because right now, you're basically just manipulating your test parameters to get the highest MPG possible.

That's also why just a few stops or rolling around in a parking lot will drastically change your overall MPG. If you had more data, small fluctuations in your driving won't have any immediate difference on your overall average. It's all statistics.

In summary, you need to collect your MPG figures over longer drives, more fill-ups, and more time.

Quite aware of all you stated . Just wanted to see how accurate it would be with only 70+ miles on it . Still impressed with 40+ m.p.g. with 2 people , some very steep hills , and a headwind of 15 m.p.h. on the way home . See here for a yearly average since new , https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...all-about.html . Most of fills were near empty for the yearly average . Guess we're too easily amused by the 51 ( was 53 at one time ) , 40+ m.p.g. and a 36.67 yearly average with a 5 speed auto .

Display showed 55 for first 12 miles for a fill of 93 w/E10 and then dwindled to 39.66 thanks to many steep hills , winds of 15+ , and interstate speeds of 68 . Quite pleased with 39+ miles to the gallon for a 5 speed auto . Tires are newly installed Bridgestone Ecopia 422s' ( 175/65-15 ) with 900+ miles set at 36 p.s.i..
