Angry Insurance Claim

I have a 2012 Fit Sport. I had some damage done to my RH lower skirt yesterday as a result of road debris. It is scraped up pretty good. I call my insurance company and they tell me it is NOT covered under Comprehensive but Collision. And to add insult to injury...it was considered AT FAULT. Are you kidding me? I have a $100 deductible for comprehensive and a $500 deductible for collision. If the claim exceeds $1000, I run the risk of a premium increase. The part from Honda is $303 already painted...just R&R. I found it even cheaper online for $230. This is pretty much the cheapest route for the insurance or myself. What is the point? How hard is it to R&R the lower skirt?

How bad is the damage? Do you have pictures? What kind of stuff did you hit that was on the road?

It was a chunk of the road from a bad pothole. I tried to avoid it, but it was either get in a head on or end up in a flooded ditch. It just grazed my front tire and was deflected down my RH lower skirt. Just scraped up...no other damage. I have not taken pictures yet.

Well, the insurance company let me drop the claim. If the part was repaid and/or replaced, it was only $350. So, I am going to order the parts and do it myself. Has anybody replaced one of these before? It looks pretty easy by the parts guide...just a bunch of clips.

Yea, that's usually considered an at-fault collision because you technically hit something that was already in the road. Some insurance companies will list it as comprehensive depending on the situation, for example.....If it was a situation where there really was no way to avoid it. Like if it was at night and you could not swerve. Sucks to be in that situation. Hopefully you have no issue in replacing it.
