How are you guys getting 38 miles per gallon
on cruise control and I did the 50 dollar intake and I did the 50 dollar intake mod which seems t which seems to be giving me 2 miles per gallon less and I average about 29 miles per gallon what am I doing wrong

the intake mod increases airflow to the engine... and from what little i know, by increasing airflow, you increase the amount of fuel needed to keep a relative "AFR" (air fuel ratio).
but some folks make claims that it doesn't.. *shrugs*
to get higher MPG... you need judicious use of cruise control... a slow a steady acceleration... and a minimum amount of braking (through, I don't recommend blowing stop signs).
The closer to 45 MPH you can get, the better... the Fit seems to like 45 MPH.

Don't slow down for corners (learn how to take them at speed), nice steady throtle preasure, don't floor it when accelerating. I can actually get better numbers without using cruise contril since I can anticipate hills and coast and such more efficently.
I average just about 37 on my commute and almost 38 on long highway trips. No mods and I am running wide, high performace all season tires.
Where in NJ are you?

First question is do you have the auto or manual? Second question is what type of roads do you typically drive on, city, highways, hills, flat roads, etc?
I drive like a mad man most of the time, and still average 37mpg 50/50 city/Hwy. (5sp manual)
Even with the ethanol mix they use for the winter up here, and running my defrost all the time, I never got worse that 35mpg.

^^ The brake pedal is your enemy. I use mine only in absolute emergencies. That said, on my stock 09 MT I only achieve 38+ mpg for any significant length of time if I’m on the highway in warm weather with no wind or a tailwind.

i have brought this up before and i still dont believe half of the 38+ MPG people claim on here. But im in Miami so i guess the hot humid weather kills my MPG.
But i added a K&N drop in and im at 34-35 on strictly Highway with cruise control set at 65mph-70mph. City im getting 29-30MPG on average style driving.
There is also a 2009 model year fix that corrected MPG by 3 mpg i believe...
but im happy with my 30-34 MPG!

I just ran the numbers and my average since I bought the car is 37.06mpg. I have every fuel stop logged in a book I keep in my glovebox. I have the station, date, price, odometer readin, trip meter reading, mpg meter reading and the number of gallons. So far it seems the onboard fuel meter is off by up to 3mpg, but it varies and is generally closer to 0.5 off (in either direction).
Mine is a 2011 base 5mt btw.

I've been getting 38-41 mpg on several gas tanks recently with the warmer weather. It drops in the cold.
My commute is 31 miles one-way. 27 of those miles are highway, the rest are city streets to get on the highway and then the city street to reach my work.
I haven't changed anything on my car. '09 Sport with automatic.

First, not all aftermarket intakes are better than stock.
second, the throttle controls the air intake; the only thing that the new intake could be doing is incresing the pressure drop when air is sucked through the intake, or the air filter. The harder the engine has to work to suck air in the more power used, hence less mpg.
Try replacing the fiter with a nice new cean one and check mpg. replace filter and check again. figure on a 25 route, same for both.
Then remove the filter altogether being careful to stay away from dusty environments and check mpg.
And of course you can replace the original intake and filter and see the mpg.
good luck.

Wasn't there a tsb for the mieage estimates? My uncle was raving about his 34 mpg average to my 26 mpg. I asked him not to go by the display and instead to go by his trip meter and it turned out to be less.. Closer to 31 mpg...

Just want to amend my earlier numbers. Turns out my average is 36.5mph, not 37. I missed 8 gallons on the first page of my book, but they got added back in when I did an excel spreadsheet to upload to fuelly.

This exactly. If i'm sitting in traffic i'll leave car lengths in front of me to idle along and avoid hitting the brakes at all costs, let the people weave in and out in front of me like a bunch of jacktards.
Take advantage of downhills, no throttle.
60-70 mph cruising speed on highway.
I don't have cruise control, and even if I did, I wouldn't use it. It's to abrupt on throttle to maintain speed.

I'm averaging 38.5 on the past 1k miles. I'd say 75% of my miles are highway. Probably 75% of the time on the highway I'm on Cruise. No mods. Just pick up speed slowly. I'm in Tampa, Florida. Not sure if that makes any big difference. It's interesting that so many people get such a wide variety of mpg, maybe dependent on the driving style I guess.

Our 2011 base model w/ the 5 speed auto averaged 36.67 since purchased new last April . Try to keep tires at 35 > 37 . Using the Honda Genuine 0w-20 ( Conoco / Philips ) with the Honda oil filter . Close to 12,000 miles on it . We had an 2007 Prius and learned the pulse and glide which is applied to the Fit .

About my experience in a '12 MT base. Best is 39 on a very flat (slightly downhill road). Anytime I push about 75+ MPH or wind kills the MPG.

36 mpg on my last fill up. I drive in metro Atlanta's always fun rush hour traffic. Maybe a 60/40 hwy-city mix.
I'm relatively easy on the gas pedal and use the instant MPG meter a lot. Kills some time when sitting in traffic.

Well I routinely get 38-40.7 driving to/from work ,York Pa,to Bel Air Md. I guess you would call it hypermiling by coasting down hills and up to stops. Pulling out, limiting rev's to 2500. I have 38,000 miles on since last state inspection and still have 60% of my pads left,so I am very easy on the brakes as well. The speed limit on the interstate I travel is 65 mph and I try to stay just under that a tad {63} . I notice anything over 65 eats up more fuel. My commute is 50% interstate,50% light rolling hills and average speed of 45mph. Only one small town with a 30mph limit and 2 stops. Since I owned my 2009 5 speed manual I have never gotten less then 31mpg even loaded with 2 canoes and camp gear to the hills of western PA, MD, and W VA. I don't use the on dash mpg meter for my MPG figures. I use fuel used, divided by miles driven method. I just put on a set on Continental extreme contact DWS and find myself driving more agressive in corners but that is where it ends as fast driving. The Conti's have dropped me down a bit to 38.7-39.5 Mpg on average lately, but a recent tank yielded 40.1?? Like one poster said, ease on the gas and brakes, coast,no high rev's. Conti Tire pressure 40psi. Works for me.
