If it were two different pieces, it would be odd for them both to broken in the exact same way rather than for them to just be built differently.

The illumination of the gauges themselves work fine. Not sure if that would make a difference. I'll post up the rest of the circuit as soon as I get home. I'm pretty sure I understand what you're saying though. I guess I just assumed it would ground the cluster and the radio through the same wire. Thanks again everyone for te help.

Lots of info, but from what I see, ground are pins 13 & 17.

Probably because that's what I was leaning towards when I had them. I never thought to test the ground though.

The grounds are in a buss, meaning a common connector running to a connector fastened to the chassis. While the gages work fine you'll notice the grounds for the a/c, radio, etc are separate and if the buss is unconnected somewhere they wouldn't function. Aas you can see the gages andother pieces are on separate ground busses.
good luck tracking. Buss is just an electrical term for manifolded streams.
PS the rest of the circuits for radio, a/c etc aren't on that. you'll have to look at the manuals wiring distribution harnesses to locate test points on their ground buss.

First thing I'd check at this point would be for bent or missing pins on the back of the gauge cluster. Pin 1 being damaged or one of the ground pins (13, 17, or 28) would explain this. Since the original cluster works I'd be surprised if theres a problem with the wire harness.
