Manual Transmission: 1-2 Shift Clunk

Manual Transmission: 1-2 Shift Clunk
When I first got my GE, I asked if anyone felt like they couldn't get a nice, and fast 1-2 shift without feeling the engine move around a lot, and there wasn't much of a reply. I got the car used, and it's always felt this way, but I've never had a car act like this. Figured it was just the stupid clutch delay valve.
Then I see videos of people chirping the tires in 2nd and am wondering again if a mount is loose or broken, because I actually feel a pretty hard hit, or clunk, when the power catches of up to the wheels on a fast 1-2 shift.
Anyone else? I've owned manuals since I could drive, and never felt like the engine was this loose, but it's a Honda, and so I thought.. well, I don't know what I thought. Help me out guys. I inspected the dogbone mount once while the car was on a lift and nothing was visibly broken or seemingly loose.

A number of people have complained about the CDV. But these complaints have mostly come from folks like you, those with lots of M/T experience.
Personally, I think you guys are just too used to other M/Ts that you are unable (or simply unwilling) to adjust.
The first car I drove on any regular basis was a Ford Escort, M/T for one year. But I spent the next 15 years driving A/Ts, with a few rare scattered occasions back on M/T. So that meant I had to basically relearn how to M/T.
I find that without having directly from another M/T, I think I am better able to get used to the Fit.
I have been thinking about it for the last two days, oddly enough. I find that my "footwork" suits the CDV very well.
Personally, I think you just have get used to moving your clutch foot differently.
Practice, practice... practice.

Delete the CDV!
Actually, the clunk noise, is that from your engine moving around or your transmission? If its not the transmission, then its your transmission mount clunking around(the mount on the bottom of the driver's side frame) It's very soft. I don't know about the GE8, but when I had my car on the dyno, the engine sways A LOT. I got some motor mounts to help reduce the sway. I don't recommend getting motor mounts unless you don't care about cabin noise. I used to bog from 1-2 shifts and some wheel hop, but the motor mounts helped reduce that. I also don't have a CDV anymore.

Window weld on the mounts and the CDV delete have been on my mods list, whenever I get to them (hopefully by this summer). The CDV and the rev hang have been annoying me since day 1, even though I got used to them (although I still want to get rid of both them).
I've noticed that when driving my car more "spirited", shifting at around 6k rpm the shifts much more smoother, than shifting in the 3-4k range. Could be that? or a combination of all factors mentioned.
Keep us updated.

I've noticed this too on my GE8, and from what I read on here I'm thinking of trying the window weld on one mount first, then see how it feels (maybe do the rest too). I think the solid mounts might be too much for me, but we'll see.

Also if you do decide to do it, just try the Rear mount first. That would probably be the most effective against the wobble and not have much vibrations.

Yeah the rear one is the one mentioned in the other thread. Thanks for the reminder. I see you did both the solid mounts and the CDV delete, must feel much better huh?

I've never done mounts on any of my cars for fear of extreme NVH, but being that these are so...inadequate, I might swap them, or fill them. I almost just went ahead and filled them, but that is pretty risky, and it's not like the engine is a smooth 6 cylinder, so I'd expect the worst. Stock intake would have to go back on, cause that thing is amazing at dampening the sound (being that it is half the size of the engine.)
A torque damper could also help, I suppose, but I can't weld, and that just seems like a band aid that might help under full load and not much else. I need more responsive low speed, low gear maneuverability (so, for example, I floor it, immediately let off cause there is a hazard, and then decide to floor it again immediately after the path is clear.) So I can dart through slow moving dense traffic better, Blue Cell.
Thanks for the input folks. I'd like to be rid of wheel hop too, so I can keep it at the limits in the rain better.
Depending on how the COTA f1 track is set up (business-wise) I might be building a track car, which may end up being the Fit. At that point, I could have all kinds of fun making it raw and uncomfortable.
