Big Dude in Honda Fit

Big Dude in Honda Fit
I am going to a dealer this week to see if I feel comfortable in one of these cars. Due to the rising gas prices and a couple of pay cuts, I am selling my 2008 Tundra 4x4 and looking to get into a smaller car. With payments and gas savings, I am looking at saving between $500 to 600 per month. The only concern I have is that I am 5'11" and weigh around 300 lbs. I have been dieting and lost over 40 and hope to continue the trend. The last thing I want is the fat guy in a little shirt routine when I purchase a car. Some honest feedback is needed. Thanks in advance.

I feel you, I feel I am also big for my car but the Honda Fit is extremely roomy. I drive my bro's si time to time and I am stuffed in it and prefer my own ride (6"1 200 pounds) and yeah. I say "f$%# it" if you like the car, it fits your needs, you wanna save sum money on gas, you want dependency, GET THE FIT! (Sorry, I am totally smacked right now excuse my retarded post)

Have you ever sat inside a Fit? You should try that out - it'll change your life! Its exterior appearance makes quick-to-judge people assume that it's a crammed car. However, it truly is extremely roomy with a pretty high roof clearance (not sure if I termed that correctly).
edit: Oops, I forgot that you said you're going to the dealership this week. Answers my first question :P

Quite honestly, after i bought the car brandnew i had a few days of scepsism whqether i got the right car. I am 6'2" and 205 and couldnt quite stretch my legs out like i used to in the midsize car i had. However, once the seat adjusted and settled to my body i am very comfortable and will test out longterm comfort this week on a road trip.
I simply realized that going from a larger vehicle to a subcompact is a bit of an adjustment. Take your time with the test drive, perhaps sit in it for a few minutes. If you happen to buy brandnew, dont let the dealer corner you with all sorts of add-ons and extended warranty (it wont take effect until the initial warranty expires). The Fit has stellar reliablity ratings for a reason.
I love the car and the 10-12 mpg gain, youll see a much bigger jump yourself. Itll fit 8 ft boards comfortably with passenger seat down, and you can easily take that seat out if you need even more room than that.
Keep us posted on how it goes.

I feel the OP's pain - I, too had a Tundra, 2007 CrewMax and loved it. I was and still am 270lbs 6'2" and I have no problems fitting in the Fit. My only problem now is having a car seat in the back that forces me to be forward more than I like. So if you don't have a baby to cart around, you'll be fine.

5'10 304lbs...
fit 4 easily in the car though I agree the room in the back is tight and in the winter we are fighting for the center console...if only the car was 2 inches wider...
fitment is fine but the seats suck...mine are mashed up pretty bad and am considering clazzios to cover them up.
also they get uncomfortable by the shoulders as the seat gets narrow up top.
still love it!

I'm 6'3'', I'm skinny (160lb) and I find the fit extremely unconfortable. The seat isn't well shaped, there is too much lumbar support (not adjsuable), the seat is made too wide for me (I don't touch the side bolsters), there is not enough padding, and it's lacking legroom. It's couldn't be worst imo.
I still recommended my mom to buy the fit (rear and cargo room, driving pleasure, resale value, reliability) but the low comfort (seats and noise at highway speeds) is what will keep me away from buying a fit for myself. The new Yaris 2012 has so much better seats (than the fit and 2011 yaris) it's incredible, it will certainly replace my Civic hatchback 1999.
Hopefully, the next fit will have better seats and more legroom, because all the newcomers (yaris 2012, accent 2012, rio 2012, sonic) have significantly more legroom and better seats than before.

6'1" and 297lbs as of a few mins ago (yeah I know)
My car was sold to me and initially drove by a salesman who was at least 375. He had no problem with space etc so I knew I'd be good to go.
My Fit is more comfortable than any other hatchback I test drove (and I tried at least 5 different cars). I do recommend a armrest tho because the default one is too close to the hips for comfort on a big guy.
