Fit Sport with 16" rims - thinking about trading to 15" for better ride?

15" WHEEL RIM HONDA CIVIC FIT CRX INTEGRA YARIS 4X100 | eBay

Seemed like they came in a darker color and a lighter color...

I put Yokohama Avid Envigors on them...

I also plan to get 15, is your car lowered? did it have any effect on a daily driving?

:Honda website: (this is for USDM GE Fit)

Body/Suspension/Chassis:
Stabilizer bar = (Base model front 21.0/ rear NA) (Sport front 21.0/rear 17.0)
everything else is the same.


On the Exterior Measurements the difference is:
Track = (Base--front 58.7, rear-58.1) (Sport--front 58.1, rear 57.4)
I have no idea what TRACK means

The ride was significantly smoother, I didn't feel like I had lost any responsiveness in turns.

With the lighter wheels and tires, the car feels more powerful, and I gained +1 to +2 in gas mileage.

Those are suprisingly light and cheap.

If you follow the triangle, they won't last long, i'm curious though. Thanks for posting.

Track is distance from left wheel/tire to right wheel/tire. In this case, it looks like the distance from the inside edges. Other manufacturers measure distance from centerlines or outside edges.

I've got a 2009 Fit Sport and I'm running a 14-inch winter wheel and tire package from Tire Rack. The ride is so much smoother on these 185/70-14 tires that I'm thinking about switching to 14-inch wheels for the summer as well. In fact I posed a question about it over in the Fit Shoes forum:

To me it makes total sense to switch to the smaller wheels for a nicer ride in a commuter vehicle. I also think the taller sidewall gives better protection against damage from potholes.

I replaced my 16" wheels with another set of 16" wheels, and they are a little better at surviving potholes too.

Surviving potholes have much more to do with force and angle of impact. Go a set speed, and you wreck a wheel. But go slow enough and you lighten the impact. Go fast enough and you might "skip" over the pothole enough that the impact angle won't hit the wheel.

Too bad I only have a base.. I would love some of those 15" Canadian alloys.. they're really 15" 4x100? They look like the old insight wheels a bit. Although I know where to get a set of fit sport 16"... it seems like it would be a bit complicated and pricey to arrange such a swap.

I'm surprised to hear people are dropping to 14"ers...

The only people I think going to 14" wheels are those who are swapping in Snows for the winter (14" wheels are cheaper and more readily available). I down-size when I go to my winter wheels as well but doing this also raises the fit about 1/4"-1/2" as I have 185/65/15" tires mounted up. That said, it is a little softer ride but it is much much sloppier and the car feels much less ready to respond. Last time I went to my winters, I had the OE tires on my alloys, now that I have the 205's, I can't imagine what it'll be like making the transition.

Anyone know how much the Canadian pie plate alloy 15s weigh? I assume the offset is the same as the alloy 16s.

tires alone make a huge difference. i would start with trying different tires like contininental DW and DWS are very comfy.

The offset is not the same, it's +45.... but they're also 5.5" wide. The 16's are 6" wide iirc.

I got a set of these LX wheels a little while ago, but have been too busy to get them mounted yet. I've been wondering about their weight myself as well. I will try to weigh them before I put the new tires on.

put 15's on mine with the same idea. soften up the ride a bit and do better in the snow.

really doesnt help that much, but I dont have to worry about curb rash like I did with the stockers. These are 15X7 with yoko trz's

what really helps to smoothen things up? throw a couple of sand bags in the back. Rides like a completely different car.

I'm not

Hehehe... After I get the TPMS sensors & ATEQ quickset they'll be on. Damn TPMS has also delayed me. Already got the new tires, just been way too busy with work & other projects.

Rough noisy ride

Just in process of purchasing a 2009 sport after my 2008 Lx of 3 weeks was totaled. I find it much noisier and the ride is rough in comparison. I realize from reading the forum this has to do with the firmer suspension and the short side walls.

What is the general consensus about which brand/tire I can put on the 16 alloys with a higher sidewall that will actually make a noticeable improvement to both the quality of ride and hopefully the noise.

Unfortunately, just mounting tires with higher sidewalls on same wheels will decrease your mpg and acceleration. If you want to have more flexible sidewalls to get a smoother ride without getting bigger diameter tires means you need to go to a smaller diameter wheel; that way tasller sidewalls still let you have tires of the same, or close to, the diameter stock.
In general look for tires of less weight, indicating less stiff construction, for ride and more 'streamlined' tread designs for ledss noise. The more convoluted the tread design the more likely its going to be louder. One iof the more likeable things of tires with these attributes is they usually cost less.
For example a 195/55x15 tire is 23.44" diameter with a 4.22 inch sidewall while a 175/70x14 tire has a diameter of 23.64" and a sidewall height of 4.82 ", so you gain sidewall height almost 15% higher, a substantial increase; if you don't overinflate the tires you get noticeably smoother ride unless you chose a truck tire with 6 plies.If you choose an 185/60x15 tire it has a diameter of 23.74" but a sidewall height of 4.37", not too different from stock and about the biggest diameter that will not seriously affect the mopg, odometer and speedometer, and the acceleration.
The anagology works for 16 to 15" wheels too.
