PLEASE HELP, my fit died at 15,xxx miles
I have a 2011 Fit base model 5spd. with 15,xxx miles. I was running late for work today so i was driving the car hard (bringing it to redline). My commute to work is about 1/2 mile of city streets and 8-10 miles on the highway. When i was entering onto the highway i shifted 1st, 2nd, 3rd to red line, then shifted to 4th and brought my speed up to 80mph where i then shifted to 5th to set my cruise control at 80mph. well before i had time to switch to cruise control my car started to sputter, lose power and die while i was in 5th gear. i turned my hazards on and pulled over. I waited ~5minutes and started the car back up, my check engine light is now on but the car seems to run fine. I am extremely nervous now and i bought this car for fun reliable transportation to have fun with also. my only mod is lyon's diy intake. i ended being late for work, we have a strict policy for tardiness and my boss told me i am probably fired now. all thanks to the fit. please help.

Not sure where you live, or where you work, but if you are not a problem employee, and don't have a stack of write ups in your file, they will have a pretty difficult time firing you over being late a first time.
I didn't even know that a Fit could even reach 80mph.

First get to autozone and get those codes....then get an ultraguage to save yourself a trip next time....
my guess is to put in the stock airbox, unplug the battery for 10 minutes of so (hope you have your audio codes)
get yourself an ultraguage (cheap and great product) plug everything in and drive it around.

Just put the original intake back in. They have to show you that the modification resulted in the car's failure to deny the warranty. They can be totally unrelated.

Since you've messed with the intake, check the MAF sensor. Delicate part that could have been damaged by vibrations, mishandling, and oil. Electric parts cleaner (spray can) will clean it, if it's from intake oil. Would explain why the car seems to run fine. Probably just threw a code at one point.

This is ridiculous.
If your story is true and you've only done those "modifications" then drive it up to the dealer and ask them to fix it. Just take off that yellow sticker you have on there, those void the warranty!

If he hit 80 in 3rd the rev limiter kicked in, or I should say that mine would kick in at 80.... I'd just pull the ground wire from the battery for a few minutes to clear the CEL and keep on driving the hell out of it... Hayden is probably right about cleaning the MAF so do that too and drive the hell out of it.

I like how you stated yourself you were late, but ended up blaming your fit.
anyways.. as already mentioned, take it into honda, or at the very least pull the codes.
