FitFreak doesn't allow complainers
Seriously though, it's a minor detail on a 17k car. Not everything can be perfect. If I had to guess, I'd assume that Honda did that so it's easier to line up the panel when it's being installed. If you ever lower your fit, you'll see what I mean when you have to remove that assembly.

I agree that gap looks pretty horrendous, all GE's are like that.

I didn't notice and doesn't bother me as it is in a place that doesn't grab your eye and scream Look at this screw up/oddity! I'm more bothered with the paint chip on my hood that still doesn't look right after I used the touch up paint!

Made it much easier for me to just remove the entire assembly. It pretty much just slipped off on my old SSM.

I'm 100% certain there's a very sound engineering reason for this slot/gap!! Honda wouldn't overlook something like this... For example - notice on the Odessy where the sliding door track is. Most companies try to hide the track in the rear window frame after the C pillar which looks cleaner. Honda places their's in the center of the body for better balance and less friction.

Honda chose to allow this rather ugly overlap of plastic parts in order to reduce the tolerance of two overlapping parts. Notice that the two mating cowl pieces can kind of fit together like a trombone. In this way, they don't have to make one solid piece that spans from one side of the car to the other and make sure it fits without gaps at either end. This is not about good engineering, it is about saving money.

Cost cutting isn't bad when it's something that doesn't affect the quality of the product, I'm not sure how this being one piece would make the car any better than it is.
