Auto or Manual? New Fit Buyer
#45
I'm not driving in a race, manual transmission are for dinosaurs :P
Do you still use an analog TV and have to walk to the TV to change the channel?
Most people do not want MT's anymore, resale price is always a lot lower as well.
Most manufacturers make manual transmission special orders because the demand isn't there anymore.
There is 0 benefit of having a Manual transmission in a Honda fit, it's just personal preference.

Well its one of those eternal epic questions, like cats vs dogs, dems vs republicans, good vs evil.... And yes AT is evil.

my fit sport has a Paddle shifters, i drove through the mountains before, they worked great!
A torque converter is a hell of a lot better then CVT.
If you like an MT, that's great but you're a minority.
It's been proven by testing that the 5AT fit sport gets better fuel economy then the 5MT, in the city and highway driving.
the 6MT might be a different story but Honda hasn't brought that transmission here yet.

the Paddles came with the car, I didn't order them, that's what it's meant for is downshifting or up shifting quickly.
Ask anyone who has them, it's neat option and works great.
Don't hate! Sorry to say, the 5MT has no positive justification over the 5AT.
Just personal preference, like picking blue over white.

the fit isn't a race car, it's an economy car
but hey, if reving your engine to red line every shift floats your boat, get an 5MT.
I'm passed that stage
I have bought an sold 12 2009 honda fit sports, 11 were fit sport 5AT, 1 was a 5MT, i sold it but to a 20 year old male. The 5AT just appeals to a wider spectrum of buyers.
I bought a 2012 fit sport raspberry blue 5AT, should have it in early march.

i was so used to driving manual in all my previous cars,i almost didn't know what to do when i test drove an automatic...
hell the dealership guy even thought i was crazy because i cut off the car and couldn't figure out how to get the key out and he was like "you need to put the car in park"....
and manuals are supposed to be more complicated to drive.. yeah right... you can atleast cut the car off anytime you want!!!
my next car will defintily be an SUV thats an automatic... but to me personally.. if you are a car enthusiast... you gotta have a manual to truly enjoy the feel of the car.... so i went with a manual.. and it might have been one of the greatest decisions i ever made in my life.... keeps assholes from wanting to drive your car.. and the ones that can drive your car.. are atleast talented enough to drive a manual transmission.
don't let these automatic fanboys trick you... when your driving a manual transmission you are in an very elite and EXCLUSIVE rank of car drivers.

hahaha...an elite exclusive class of drivers because you can drive manual? wow....that's a new one.
just let you know, Formula 1 race cars are all Automatics now and have been for a while. You can't get more of an elite driver then that.
If shifting gears is your viagara, then that's great for you, each to his own!

Oh jesus, you guys are fucking ridiculous.
I've had BOTH. Yeah, the manual is more fun to drive and has it's advantages over the auto, but the auto is still a well built system. The paddle shifters are instant and it feels fine, even using a torque converter. The car is willing to stay in high RPM's and the computer won't override it unless you're at redline, which you really shouldn't be either way. If everyone has complaints about the paddle shifters moving with the steering wheel, you should be in the gear you want to be in either way exiting the turn. If you're going into a turn and trying to downshit midway through, you're doing it wrong.
My two cents coming from someone who had a manual and owns an auto now.
I have no regrets switching to an auto, I really don't mind it at all. I think Honda has a well paired auto to match the Fit.

LMAO. Just realized the OP already made up his mind to get an A/T so I think this arguing over which one the OP should get for his WIFE is irrelevant, atleast I hope that is what the argument is about, and not which one car enthusiast's preference is superior.

^ Good point, but this thread still provides insight to someone who's debating between the two.
As mentioned many times earlier in the thread, it comes down to driver preference. Test drive both and go from there, *talking* about how a car feels and actually experiencing it are two different sensations.

yes, this has been discussed 100's of times since 2008, people need to click on the search button.
people test drove 2 honda fits one with a 5MT and one with a 5AT....better fuel economy for the 5AT. Even states it on the wondow sticker, but people still question it...lol
I'm sure are there are times when you had a tail wind and did get getter fuel economy in 5MT...but that doesnt count.
The 5AT has about rpms are quite a bit lower then the 5MT at highway speeds.
anyways
The choice is strictly 100% personal preference.
CLOSE THIS THREAD, put a fork in it, DONE DONE DONE!
