Ipad2 not working in 2012 fit
They are telling me the USB jack doesn't have enough watts to power it
Works great for my wife's iPhone 4
Anybody know? I can't find squat on google about it and the dealer is clueless and blames apple

It's possible. The ipad2 charger puts out 10 watts of power, but general usb specs anticipate only 5 watts of power draw. The USB charger might have overload protection that cuts power under those conditions. I can't easily tell what the iPad itself is expecting, but it should be able deal with 5 watts, as it should be able to charge from any USB port. But apple has a habit of ignoring its own specs from time to time.
That said, if you plug a fully powered iPad2 into the port, it might never demand full current.

Actually the iPad draws more current (the iPad charger just allows for this) you shouldn't damage anything, but the iPad will not charge. It's the same when you plug it into a non Mac USB port, the power isn't there so the iPad doesn't allow itself to go into charge mode. It should still sync and play music if that was your intended purpose but it's not going to charge it
On a side note, I have an iPad and an iPhone. I only carry the iPad charger with me when I travel because it works for both (iPad charger allows for up to 10w of power if needed) and since the iPhone uses 5w it works for that as well.
Remember, watts is amp draw x voltage. USB powered devices work off of 5v, and their amperage draw determines the wattage, hence why I can use the iPad charger for my phone but not the other way around.

have you tried restarting the ipad? I don't mean standby mode...
hold power until it asks you to power off, power it off and then turn it back on (while unplugged).
there's the forced shutdown method, hold power and home buttons at the same time until it blanks out. let go immediately, wait a second then power it back on (might take a while to finish powering on, it's doing "clean up duty")

Check the owners page on the Honda website and click on audio connections. On my 2011 owners link it states, "5th generation or later Ipad Nano, video, I Touch or IPhone". Not sure if this helps, but you state that you have 2nd generation and it may not be compatible. Good Luck

Hopefully they've fixed the head-unit. The one in my '10 was terrible when it came to the iPod function. No ability to quickly jump through song/artist lists and no ability to pull up Podcasts. Also, dunno if it has been affected by the IOS 5 upgrade, but on the Scion, I can now use the steering wheel controls to skip tracks in internet radio apps.

Were you trying to run a usb cable outside of the compartment that has the connection? Is your wife able to control her iPhone from the screen or does she have to use the Fit's onboard audio controls? I know when I plug my iPod into the usb port you must use the onboard controls, same thing with my Android phone. It pretty much disables any buttons or touch screens that you have on your phone or MP3 player.
I think even if you did manage to get the iPad to work with the usb port, you wouldn't be able to use it for anything but music. Apps and everything else just won't work since it will disable the screen.
If I were you, I would just use the AUX port as mentioned and get yourself a 12 volt power adapter, one where you could plug the actual iPad charging plug into the unit.

My DroidX2 works great for pandora although I don't use it as much any more since my daily drive has been cut from 35 min to 8 min... so i often skip hooking it up.
