No matter what they're making money. If they didn't make some money, they wouldn't be in the business of selling cars. I don't begrudge them of that. I only try to keep that number as low as I can in my favor, that's all. I want the car in a big way, they want to sell it to me, I try and get the thing as reasonable as I can so I can afford it, they try and make as much money on the purchase as they can. But ultimately, the seller and buyer want the same thing- a completed transaction. Give and take. Don't stress too much over 500 bucks. As long as you got the car you very much wanted, win/win.

I JUST WANT TO SCREAM, there is a charge called dealer fee, documentary fee, pre delivery charge or some other official sounding name. It is also known as a rip off, sucker tax or they stole your hard earned dollars.

It varies, in NY it is capped by law at $49, at the dealer I bought from in FL it is a staggering $699! The salesman smiles and says everyone must pay it, I did not pay it!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK, DONT PAY A SUCKER FEE! JIm

Yes, you can get them to back out the cost of the documentation fee out of the actual sale price, but it will likely be a line item that is still included, because "everyone must pay it." In Colorado, the going rate for documentation fee is $499-599. One dealership wanted me to pay like $300 for acid-etching vin # into the windows. There's $20 kits online for that kind of thing. I didn't end up paying that cost either.

i purchased a 2012 Fit Sport M/T no navi
propack
cargo cover
trunk liner
chemical treatment package/warranty (rust proofing, paint protection, and all interior surfaces treated for stain proofing)
i also bought the extended warranty (i drive 80 miles a day, so 20,800 a year, i wanted the car warrantied for more than just 2 years, considering its gonna take me 3 years to pay it)

OTD price: $20,200 with 0.9% APR for 36 months. i live in chicago, and I know our taxes are fucking ridiculous...but thats life...

Sorry for the cross post, I saw this thread after the welcome 2012 owner's thread.

In short:

$17,048.38 - Price of Fit Sport 5M White

$295 - Pro package All season floormats + Cargo liner, Honda OEM accessories. (The dealer said they would only sell the car at a discounted price if we purchased these accessories. Price was reasonable, and we wanted them anyway.)

$520.30 Tax (North Carolina)

$99.00 Tags

$498.00 Doc Fee

$18,460.68 - Price out the door

How is a ten year rust proof warranty crap? I'm from Chicago, where they salt the shit out of the streets. Our cars rust. If I get any rust, they repair it free of charge. Same with the interior, any stains don't come out, they replace it.

That sounds an awful lot like a dealer ploy if you ask me. This winter aside, here in NY they salt the shit out of our roads too. It's a simple matter of washing the car every so often. When a day hits where it's warmer, I do it myself in ten minutes flat with a bucket of warm water and my extension micro fiber arm gadget. When spring hits, you hose the down under carrige. And stains in the interior? All kinds of stain protector sprays to choose from on the shelf. And I'll wager the interior is stain protected by default in the first place- at the very least, the seats. All that aside, I sure hope you didn't pay a premium for it and if I were you, I'd read the fine print about all that they WON'T cover- with a lot of 'conditions' attached. You chose it and I hope it works out for you, but that's something I would have just about fallen over laughing at if they tried to sell me on that one! Sorry- just my opinion.

Anyway, enjoy your Fit!

I bought my alabaster silver metallic 2012 Fit Sport AT today for $18,000 OTD with cargo tray, all weather floor mats, wheel locks, and nitrogen included. Traded in my 2010 base for $12,900. Very happy with the deal, almost walked out when they balked on the previously agreed to price. They caught me at the door and said the general manager wanted to talk, heh. After that they took me seriously and the rest of the transaction was quite pleasant. Always be willing to walk! Got a much better deal on this one than on my 2010 when I bought it and I think I'll be way happier in the long run. This one's a keeper.

I bought a red 2012 Fit Sport MT (standard package) Wednesday for $17892.45 out the door.

I haggled for nearly an hour to get them down to that (about $1000 dollars - plus an additional $250 for my trade in). I got up calmly to walk several times. My salesman asked me to stay each time. The whole process was tiring but almost comical in retrospect. I feel that I got a decent deal, or at least the best that I could.

I bought the Honda Care extended services contract with the knowledge that I could cancel it if I changed my mind. After researching for a day or two I will indeed cancel the contract as soon as I get the registration card in the mail. I'm going to use the cost to buy a nice navigation/bluetooth/stereo install by a third party.

Tax is 6.25% on auto purchases in Texas. The trade-in price is subtracted from the vehicle cost before tax is calculated. To get my out the door price I added the trade-in price to the after tax and fees price. Other fees were: documentary, licence, title, and state inspection fees.

I put 3k down and financed the rest for 6 years at 2.99% to keep my payments at about $200 per month, which was my goal.

This is my first Honda, and first red car I am enjoying it very much. I looked at the Mazda 3, the Ford Fiesta, Subarus, and Hyundais (my trade in was a 2003 Elantra).

I came back to the Fit after test driving it last week and not liking it. I changed my mind and came back and bought it. I'm glad I did.

Correct. Read the fine print, I got taken on one these once before. I brought a car in for a nick of rust I didn't want to get any bigger and was surprised to find out that I needed to wait for rust to eat a hole through the car before it was covered. This same coverage is covered under the standard warranty.

A good thing to do is pick up a touchup kit in the OEM color. I got the pen brush for my 09, only to trade the car in a few months later. Now I have to get this color. It did a great job on a couple small knicks on the hood I found when cleaning the car. Oh how I hate the little imperfections you find you've picked up when you clean the car. But a touchup kit goes a long way to heading off rust even in those small knicks in the hood. Worth having.
