40+ mpg
#81
So I finally took a long drive & was able to see what I would get on the highway.
SD to NoHo & back, 87 octane, 75mph on cruise control. Only hit traffic leaving NoHo. 30 mins in bumper to bumper for like 15 miles.
Got 34mpg's. That not to bad I think. I plan to ground out the engine better & get a etc this week. Hopefully I can get it close to 40mpg. Maybe even try to do 70mph.

On one tank at 65 mph I did 37 mpgs hwy (manually calculated), but I'm hoping for better when the weather warms up and the engine is broken in.
I seriously don't see how people are getting over 40 mpgs unless they're only doing a short stint down hill and only quoting what the meter says. There are several small sedans getting that or better, but they have newer direct injection or boosted or both. In all honesty a tall hatch will has a terrible hwy drag coefficient compared to a long low sedan. Fab up a "boat tail" behind the Fit to give it a tear drop shape and watch the mpgs go way up

It happens. Not sure what to attribute it to. I'm thinking it's fuel. I drive in a local radius of home and buy my gas consistently at the same local brand station, not sure whose fuel they get. I'll go a month seeing 40 mpg, then it will drop to 38 for a while. Right now it's 34-35.
My turnpike driving [70mph] has always given me a lower mpg return over local driving.
