Why does Europe always get the good stuff...

Cooler colors, Panoramic Roof, Climate Control, Leather...

 

Not sure if i would pay for leather.... Got some 240$ PVC clazzios on the way. Would love the option for the panoramic roof.

Would love a wifi center in the car.

I like that green... even though I love my blackberry pearl.

 

Because those features would cannibalize Honda's sales of Accords and Crosstours when North Americans figure out they don't need big bloated cars to have a taste of luxury. In Europe the price of gasoline is around $10 a gallon, so those cars don't sell well there anyway. The Jazz gets a trim level for every price range.

 

The sunroof is probably a function of US roll-over tests. As for the colors, my understanding is that Americans just don't buy colored cars beyond white/grey/black and red. Something like 80% of cars sold are those. But yeah, the green fit is my favorite color.

 

My family thought I was crazy when I'd originally been shopping. I'd narrowed it down to a Mazda 2 and the Fit. My ideal color for the Mazda? A green rather similar to that one, and I'd actually gone in looking to get the bright blue Fit (for Tardis comparison purposes, bigger on the inside and all that. Just needs a swimming pool.). The blackberry pearl just happened to be the otherwise perfect option for me from the dealership I'd chosen to work with, and purple is my favorite color. They'd had a Blue '11 on the lot too, but the financing options weren't good enough to compete with the used '09. *Shrugs*

Statistics show that the "crazy" car colors don't get stolen as much anyways. Harder to offload and/or disappear in. I'll take it.

 

As I said in another thread on this same subject, Europeans get this stuff because they're willing to pay for it in a small car. As long as Americans view small cars as cheap second cars, commuter cars, etc., and demand the lowest possible price for them, this is unlikely to change.

Then too, the Fit is already pricey for its class. It's already overlapping some Civic models, and as all Americans know, for the money, a bigger car is ALWAYS better.

Uncle Gary really wants a green Fit, though. I'm so damn sick of black, white, grey, dark red and dark blue being the only color choices for cars. I want BRIGHT colors (probably the old hippie in me).

Very good point, though I'm still jealous! And I too ordered some Clazzio Seat covers which should be here in about a month and half... I still would of preferred factory leather though.

I was debating between a few different cars as well. One happened to be the Green Mazda 2 as well! I really wanted an automatic since my last 4 cars have been sticks, and the automatic in the Mazda 2 was a joke (4 speed trans). Plus, all the reviewers said to get the stick version of the Mazda, which I really didn't want to do. This is what lead me to pick up the Fit, which I am very glad I did!

I really like those European colors though! I believe for 2012 that Blue will be available on the Fit, at least from what I read in a Motortrend article.

 

Yea the Europeans get all the good options. 1.2 and 1.4 liter motors, more heavy crap to lug around and more expensive. Sounds awesome to me. Sign me up.

On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind the yellow color featured in the header of this webpage.

Out of all of those fancy options, a sunroof would be cool. Other than that, I don't need leather seats....hell, the last car that I owned that had leather seats {1997 Acura Integra}, the seats were stolen.....lol....after that incident, no more leather seats for me, too afraid of getting them stolen again.

 

Do the cars with the sunroof come with better ACs? Cuz I'd be concerned that much glass would turn the car from a green house to a cajun microwave.

 

I think most sunroofs come with a sliding visor that blocks the sun when the sunroof is closed....shouldn't make the car any hotter. A sunroof would definitely cool it down faster if the car has been sitting in the sun....get in the car, open all windows including the sunroof...and the hot air will escape through the roof....

 

I HATE sunroofs/moonroofs. I really don't get why some people like 'em. It's one more thing to go wrong (malfunction, leaking, etc.), and they increase the road noise in a car, even with the sliding part closed. And the decrease temperature insultation, even with the sliding part closed. It's hot and sunny here in Dallas; I spend a lot of time staying away from the sun. I sure as heck don't wanna give it more opportunity to intrude into my car! In fact, when looking at larger cars to buy earlier this year, a main reason I didn't find one to buy is that in order to get lumbar support and/or power adjustable driver's seats, you almost always had to get a sunroof/moonroof.

As for colors, I always buy white cars. Those cool colors you like because they're so different? That also means that many other people won't wanna buy your car, when you go to sell it. That translates into a lower resale value. White cars are fairly easy to sell; most people will buy a white car, even if that's not their first choice. White cars don't show dents as much as colors and dark cars, or dirt and dust. Plus it helps in a hot climate. There are tons of white cars here, so yeah, they are very common. Which means a lot of people will be interested in a white car for sale.

The Fit is one of those cute cars, though, that WOULD look good in a funky color. If I weren't going to sell my Fit in a couple of years, I would've considered a color other than white (but nothing really funky). The Fit looks good in red, which is a basic color. The dark gray (not silver) is a pretty color, but somehow it doesn't look right on a cute car like the Fit.

 

Interesting. I've had sunroofs on most all of my cars and really miss it. I've never once had an issue with water leaking or any malfunction (and my prelude had 196K miles when I traded. Sunroofs won't make the car any hotter in the summer or cooler in the winter, they'll actually allow for better venting of hot air in the summer when popped up just a tiny bit (and the slider pulled back an inch or two to vent. (Many vehicles have little vents at the front of the slider particularly for this reason.)

It's the one thing I really miss from previous cars. Even though the fit is very open feeling, there's nothing like driving down the road with the sunroof open, especially when it's 40 degrees out, with the heater on, pointed to the floor. Air whistling past my bald spot and through the few stray hairs.

My last two cars have been white as I like the color and completely agree on the sun/temp issue. My prelude was a Black/Black car and the A/C died, in July with temps over 100 Degrees in NJ, which is why I finally traded it. If I had to do it again, I think however I'd go for the Revolution orange. On an Economy car like the fit, Color is of less importance to people when buying used (new cars is where people get picky) so while you might lose a few bucks, it's not much. it's laos worth it to get the color you want. White was my first choice but I see a lot of white fits on the road. the RO is unique and probably where I'd go if I had to replace it.

I totally agree.....now, would I have the sunroof opened of it were over 100 degrees out?...hell no..the AC would be kicking...but on cool days or not so hot days where you would open the window, the sunroof is nice....I too never had a problem with leaks. I think most sunroofs are made pretty well now-adays that that shouldn't be an issue...but as with everything, there will be some exceptions.....oh, and the Orange Revolution is a great color...I get a lot of comments from people....positive comments that is...lol

 

I'm primarily buying a car for myself though, not for the next person. Worrying about what makes them happy seems silly.

The only sunroof I've had is on my 04 accord. The only problem I've noticed is that at 35 mph with the sunroof fully open, the car resonates like when you blow across the top of a bottle. It's not a good feeling.

That said, my next car will be a convertible for all the reasons you state.

I totally agree. That was another issue when I looked at larger cars this year. In order to get the bells and whistles, like premium audio, I not only had to get a sunroof, I ALSO had to get leather seats. I have never cared for leather seats. I hope it's just a fad that passes. And those that had cloth in the middle model, usu. the cloth upholstery was so butt ugly, it was as if the car mfr was trying to force you to buy leather. Some of the cloth upholstery looked like polyester spandex pants material. The CRV was an exception on the upholstery, but I still would've been forced to get a sunroof, plus there were other things about the CRV I didn't care for. It'll be interesting to see what the new CRV looks like.

So...I got the Fit to drive for a couple of years, giving the car industry a chance to settle down somewhat. There are so many changes going on. The Fit....schwing! Cute car with ample room, zippy, comfy, decent upholstery, NO sunroof, holds a ton of stuff (incl. my two doggies, who have given their stamp of approval to the low riding car they can easily jump into).

If I had it to do over, I might go for a funky color, or at the least red. I think the syle of car that the Fit is, those colors seem to fit it. Oh, well....at least I got some little racing stripes on the sides!

 

My Dad had car's in the 40's with leather seats, I do not think it will be a quickly passing fad.
