What tire sizes fit on OE wheel?

Hi I have an 09 Fit Sport that I would like to retain the OE wheels, but the OE tire size is quite limited on options (I want to go with Michelin or BFGoodrich). Can anyone tell me what tire sizes will work on the OE wheel? I've searched and found a handful of posts about what sizes will fit without rubbing, but many I've found are talking aftermarket wheels. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

That really depends on the tires. If you look at sites like tirerack, they have specs listed for most tires... one of those specs is the width range of the wheel (5.5"-7.5" or 6"-8", etc.). Stock alloy is 16x6. You can get some 205 width tires to fit on 6" wide wheels... but find some that won't. The popular after markets are 16x7... which nearly all 205 width tires will fit.

You can try for:

195/55/16, which is larger than stock in width and diameter.

195/50/16, larger than stock in width, but smaller in diameter.

205/50/16, even larger still in width than previous two options, but much closer in diameter to stock (slightly larger, but my speedometer now matches my GPS with this size).

Many of us have gone with 205/50/16s on the '09 Sport quite successfully. The only issue that I'm aware of is that the tires, being slightly heavier than the narrower OEMs, might reduce gas mileage slightly. I can't say whether or not they have on my car because I don't keep sufficiently detailed records. But if they have, it's only by a small amount, maybe one or two mpg.

There are lots of threads on this. A check with the Search function before posting is good form.
