You have a price that your comfortable with? It is the end of the model year and next month the dealers will be gearing up for the 2012 arrivals. So if the salesman does not hit your number don't worry about it, in the next 30-45 days the dealerships will be moving these 11's out and won't be so aggressive. Especially if they already know your back to Get a Deal.
I had quite the cat and mouse game w/ a few dealerships and all was done viva the Internet when it came to price and after searching for 70-90 days the the price I was willing to pay was achieved. I went in with a check and 45min. later was in the BOM Fit, no extended warranty BS! it was 1595.00 total out the door and T.Y. very much.
I absolutely love my Fit and it just had it's 3rd birthday w/o 1 problem, but maintenance is what I do. The Fit for what it is; is a great little car. I have almost 35k on mine and get around town 31-34 mpg. Here's a picture of 'er:
Good luck with your new Purchase and Stand Your Ground!

Good decision to hold off which will be to your advantage in getting lower price for the 2011 models or having a choice to look at 2012 models.
I am not sure if 2012 ones are still made in Japan or otherwise. If "made in Japan" is important to you in terms of qualify and workmanship or perception of it, you may want to keep an eye on the place of manufacture of new model year FIT and get the FIT that is made in Japan
My sales men said Honda may be transferring the FIT assembly to North America... I am not sure if he is BS me? If he is telling the truth, I would not want to buy the first batch of FIT made by North American newbie assembly line workers - their first car, they are newly trained.... there's a zillion parts that made up a car

Uma, the best thing I can tell you is when you are shopping online, get the "out the door" price not the "selling price" as they they can say they they will sell the car for 15k, but when you get there you'll have to pay1500 of crap fees that they are going to add to the selling price.
You WILL NOT save thousands on a new Fit, NEVER. There isn't enough margin on the car for that to ever happen. Honda knows how well the Fit is selling now and that's why there are no incentives on the car. I don't feel the the Fit is an MSRP car, but with supply and demand on them as high as it is, I wouldn't expect a huge savings.
If you're going to get an extended warranty, you can purchase Honda Care from most Honda dealerships online. If it's something that you want, but don't have to means to buy upfront, get the warranty price online, and then tell the F&I guy you would like to buy it at that price.
If you really want to know all the sleezy things that a dealership does, just ask. Some of things are just downright deceitful. Especially since you are a first time buyer. Go get approved at a Credit Union somewhere so they don't ass rape you in the finance department.

If you have a smartphone (who doesn't) download a payment calculator. If you know the OTD price, you will know what your payment is with price, rate and term. Any smart salesperson will hammer you on payment. They are basically taking the price, down paymnet, and trade value/difference (if any) out of the equation. They strictly focus on the payment, so they can extend the term and increase the rate for maximum profit.
If any of you ever got this call from the dealership/salesperson "Hey, this Jack Meoff, I got great news...You need to come back and re sign your contract because I got you a better rate with the bank"...you paid too much. Basically, the bank declined the dealers submission and wouldn't agree to the rate on the contract. So, the dealer has to lower the rate so the bank will buy the contract.
Yes, I was one of those horrible people. I did it all from training, f&i and desking deals. I definitely understand why everyone sees the car salesman as such a deuchebag.

Hey man. You def want to get as much info straight before going in to talk about a purchase. But as far as prices and geting a deal I would focus more on geting some fit accesories for free because they are not usually willing to drop the price very far on a new fit. Check out their accesories and see if there is anything that you want because they will typically throw some stuff in to sweeten the deal. Especially because most fit models do not come with floor mats and such and the all weather floor maps will usually cost about $135. Good luck and enjoy the new car.

2011 Fit base with auto, MSRP w shipping $16,650
My original trip to the dealer I bought from I was quoted IIRC $18,700 plus my trade out the door.
Weeks later I traded for $15,938.40 out the door with no trade in! So one way to look at it I saved $2700, That's thousands of $$$$$$$$
My OTD price was $15,938.40
The actual price and this is foggy with the $699 dealer fee but I will include that in the price. was $14,629.42. So you are right it is not possible to save thousands. Or is it depends on how you look at it.
It is much better for most to deal with an out the door price, myself included. But even that can be skewed by various things. My new Fl plates were $388.40. So my actual OTD price was $15,550.
This was right after the Tsunami, much harder to get a good deal now.
I am not posting to say what a great negotiator I am. I just hope to help others get the best deal they can.

let's really put this into perspective. while some of you are saving a decent amount of cash it's sad that you have to haggle so much to begin with to buy an entry-level car.
i usually knock off a few grand to get a car of my choice (timing is critical) but i dont count nickels and dimes either. just enjoy the purchase and enjoy the car. no need to kill yourself over some savings on a new car purchase. the car is worth wat it's worth to you.
