Tire Rotation
#21
I think that when it's time for an oil change, the maintenance minder will also determine if it's also time for a tire rotation. That's when a "1" will appear, along with the oil change symbol ("A" or "B", can't remember which}. I don't think the "1" will come on unless it's also time to change the oil.

The manual calls for a "cross forward" rotation pattern. It can't hurt to switch sides during rotation.

I think that's what he was saying. The computer would calculate the oil and then check to see if it was time to do tires as well. if it was, it would throw up the signal. I'm at 28K on the car (about 24k on these tries) and figure I have another 10k to go on the tires (one more season) before it is time to upgrade. I'll see how they are and maybe check when winter comes around to see if there are any good sales on All season or summer tires.

Has anyone gotten the MM to show up with just the A or B... and no number? Or at least, no #1?

Thanks for all the great responses.

That's actually why it is recommended to rotate among ALL locations. But, this assumes you rotate them often enough that the difference in wear isn't dramatic. After a full cycle (wear a tire has been in all four positions)... it would've "experienced" wear the same way as the other three tires, thereby making them "wear evenly."
If you believe one side wears differently from the other... you could have one side wearing MORE than another. So much that one side could be "bald," while the other side might have a long tread life left (and could be problematic if you are glimpsing at the good tire, and assuming the other side is the same, in a rush). And I think this would affect ride quality even MORE so. At least for non-directional tires. Of course, this could be a sign of more serious problems too (alignment?).
Honda recommends only front to back for directional tires, of course.
Like a previous poster said... if you NOTICE the uneven wear... it's probably too late.

Unless your car is perfectly corner balanced at 25% per corner (it isn't), you should follow the reccommended rotation pattern. Forgetting that your local shops may not have mentioned it, Honda, the people who know a LITTLE more about you Fit than a local dude who may or may not REALLY know what he's doing reccommend it. That's a pretty strong nod towards it being the right way to do things in my book! Mark W.
