My Fit getting better gas mileage than CRZ Hybrid
My son's girlfriend just bought a new 2011 CRZ Hybrid. I asked her what her gas mileage has been, she said about 35 city and 39 highway.
I've owned a Honda Fit Sport 5AT since August 2009. My last tank of gas I averaged almost 40 mpg actual, 316 miles/8.03 gals. (10% city, 20% country, 70% highway). My current tank has 60 miles on it (100% highway) and my odometer reading is 47.2 mpg. Since I 've owned this car, I've always averaged between 32 to 40 mpg. (20% city, 20% country, 60% highway)
I guess I don't need a hybrid!

But has she actually calculated her mileage? Those are the EPA estimates, which can vary significantly from driver to driver (not to mention location to location). However, I agree with you that the Fit gets EXCELLENT mileage; much more than the EPA estimates would lead you to believe. I, too, am averaging around 38mpg with my highest to date around 40...

It would be better if you had driven BOTH for similar conditions, than to compare two different drivers.

Are you seriously going to stand by your comparison of YOU in a Fit vs HER in a CRZ?

I'm in agreement with goobers on this one. The crz has an eco mode and a sport mode. do you know what mode she drives in? I have a ge8 and the best I can average is 30ish... I'm not always a sipper. you should trade cars with her for a week. I like the crz, I test drove one and they are nice...wish they had back seats and didn't give off emf radiation.

Kirinzon, my guess is she is in sport mode most of the time and I would never trade cars with her for one minute. I will ask her to keep a log and try to see exactly what kind of actual miles she is getting. She took me for a ride in it this past weekend and there is a big difference between eco and sports mode on the CRZ

City and highway are also too fluid in their definition to compare.
Automatics are a different story - I rarely broke 30 average in mostly city with my Fit... 26-27 for mostly city. Switching to a manual in a much heavier, larger engined car, my mostly city mileage has been around 25-26, doubtless assisted by the lack of a torque converter wheezing along at 25 mph on the 40-50% grade climb during the final on my commute. Highway isn't so great, but still better than the silly EPA estimates (34-35 on the few highway drives I've done with it. For reference, EPA says 23/31)

The way to interpret the EPA MPG is as a relative comparison, not a direct comparison.
If you score 20% better than EPA's test cycle on one car, you should expect to score about the same % higher on the other car as well.

haha I guess you don't unless you need another 10mpg. Which is what you would get additional from a CR-Z driving it yourself under the same conditions as you drive your Fit.
