Smile Bike + Kayak = Fit

No more drop off or pickup. I lock my bike downstream. Drive to launch kayak upstream. After I done kayaking, lock Kayak downstream and ride bike upstream picking up the car. Then drive downstream picking up kayak. Sounds complicated but it works perfectly.

My uncle paddles one of the stubbies. I'm too freakin big for it, so I may be getting a kayak to accompany my bike soon too.

I'm about to start kayaking myself, but the smallest ones I've found at my local sporting store is 8ft. long... Don't think that will "Fit".

That is what roof racks are for. I plan on having around a 13' kayak strapped on top of my Fit.

I imagine that's what I'll end up doing when finances permit. I'd still like to find a kayak under 8' long though, just seems a bit excessive.

It's a size issue. I can't fit in stubbies let alone most shorter kayaks, so I'm stuck to recreational/touring kayaks that are generally 11.5-13' long for a single occupant. Plus if you have a roof rack, you can carry a second kayak and have someone join you!

For those interested, check out the Tequila from Point 65. They are modular so not only can you can break them down, you can convert them into a multi-tandem kayak. A friend of mine has one and its very cool. Pretty quick and easy to maneuver. The ratcheting mechanism locks the pieces in tight so it feels solid.

Single: Point 65°N - Kayaks from Sweden
Tandem: Point 65°N - Kayaks from Sweden

Haha, check out this silliness. 9 person tandem!

I never tried, but I can't imagine why my 8' Yak Board wouldn't fit inside, although I'd still prefer to use the roof rack just so I'm not stuffing a wet boat in the car. No matter how much I dry it and empty it, it always drips somewhere!
