I feel like maybe this thread may help someone in the future and wasn't a big joke...full circle
So my stock muff I couldn't hear. it must have three 90 bends inside it and comes out with another 90. very restrictive.
my main goal was to have a muff I could hear.
I had a magnaflow wide open performance muff installed.
I couldn't hear the new muff because the resonator was so loud...right under the passenger side.loud as sh$t and was raspy so I had it cut out.
I could hear the muff now but it was loud with hellish drone and my low end went bye byes. so I tried to buy a silencer and they don't make any that size. so I made my own. I went from a 1 3/4" outlet to a 1 1/4" outlet.
Now I can hear my muff. It has no rasp a nice deep tone and I have my low end back.
It was a cheap mod opposed to buying a "tuned exhaust" which may or may not be any better and my geuss is you will run into the same problems.

I wanted to add to the post that I did try other size outlets and what I found for my personal set up was that a 1 1/4" silencer worked the best for me. This is my preference and may not reflect yours. There is no magical formula for what is best for each persons unique needs. It can be argued that to make the engine run most efficient that "this is the size you need", however it will not be without a cost. If max horsepower is what you want then run it wide open or get bigger pipes, however you will sacrifice the low end. A n/a fit with wide open pipes does go faster.The down side is with a straight through exhaust (stock size pipes) it will be like a semi truck with a full load in first gear. I couldn't see bigger pipes helping a fit gain more low end. It all comes down to trial and error and getting your vehicle the way you like it. If your boosted that's another story and this thread was to try to help those not in the boosted club.

When I give gas I like to hear the exhaust come out. This was a main goal, but there are more benefits to having an open exhaust. The stock exhaust is not wonderful...it is as restrictive as they come. If your good with yours that's all that matters.
