HELP!! odoor from under the hood!!

Helo FFers,

It has been 2 weeks my car suddenly emits strong poop smell from under the hood when the engine is hot. It stinks so bad everytime I open the hood. And I am sure it smells ass in there. I am 100% sure the smell only comes from under the hood only when it is hot. When it is cold, I barely can smell it.

I suspect the odoor is of mice poop, however I went to a local carwash and had my car lifted up and sprayed all under with hi pressure water, they even sprayed over the engine (with all wiring and fuse sealed with plastic bags) to get rid of it. They said it was all clean, they could not see any trace of poop, trash, or roadkills in there.

However all has failed to work so far. The poop smell is still there, not even fading a bit.

Any of u guys ever had the same problem? Any idea to cure this?

Oh I checked the engine and I can't find any chemical leaks that might cause the smell. And the smell is more from organic/trash matters other than chemicals/oils.

I think your car is just letting you know you got a crappy deal when you bought it.........

Check your air Filter. We had Mouse fall in the airbox of our Ridgeline one time and he couldn't make it out. not a pretty smell.

I would check my entire exhaust carefully. When is car stone cold go under car and run your hands over every inch of exhaust and catalytic converter. Could be something making contact with it and only smelling when hot. This is the hottest part of your car and some plastics and composites outgas really bad with unique smells, not always the typcial burning plastic smell. This would also explain why high pressure wash didn't remove it. Material could be fused to the exhaust.

during the first few weeks of owning my gd3 i did notice a stinky, rotten egg, type smell. i was told by a friend that it was probably the catalytic converter being broken in and to give it a few weeks -- he worked at a lexus dealership and said he is250/300 have the same problem. the smell eventually burned off like he said.

why not take it to your dealer? no point in using your time and money trying to fix a problem that should be covered under honda's dime

Okay,

Thank you very much for the advice people. I will go check the underside thoroughly once again.

Do u think a cup of coal or baking soda could help absorbing the smell? Anyone ever try this?

Thanks

How could that happen? The airbox is supposed to be shut isn't it?

It has to be something leaking even if you checked it.

Did you check your exhaust system (from the manifold to the tail pipe) to see if there are any leaks and any hissing noise while driving? And also the battery if its leaking fluid?

The air has to get in... The mouse went in the same way - in the Intake tube and down to the box. fell down in and that was the end. Never made it past the filter, just to the box.
