Favorite tools to add to those in your tool kit
I found a thread on the tool kit that is included in a Fit... and hidden under the back seat! It is very meager according to my reading of the pictures in the thread. (I'm picking up my 2011 Fit Sport in August.)
I was wondering if anyone had their favorite tools to add to the pouch.
I am already the owner of a new 1/2" torque wrench to assist in torquing the lug nuts just right (80#, I hear). I also bought a $42 tire repair kit. This said, I know something is bound to be missing from that stock tool kit Honda offers.
So my question is: Who has his own favorite tool they wouldn't be without when going on a long road-trip? Please mention such things as MM or American standard.

My "side of the road emergency fix kit:" 10mm, 12mm, 14mm sockets and a ratchet, multi-tool, zip ties, duct tape, phillips and flat screwdriver, flashlight, jumper cables, $2.00 tire plug kit (what the hell does a $42 kit look like?.) I figure most little "pop up" problems are going to be related to tires, cooling, or electrical.

The only tools I am carrying is as follows:
-those needed to install the spare
-cell phone to call roadside assistance for a tow to the
dealer
Thats it.
I carried so many tools and spares in my old vehicle there
was hardly room in the trunk for a grocery trip.

All I have are the tools that the GE8 came with. Pretty much just the breaker bar wrench and scissors jack. I usually bring a set of tools with me on road trips, but after reading this, I think I'll assemble a a tool kit that I should keep inside the GE8 at all times.

I've had an emergency road kit in my car since I had my 99 prelude. Comes with Hazard Triangle, tow rope, flashlight, flare, air pump, jumper cables, etc.
I also keep a craftsman 12 piece ratchet set in MM of course. Have left over oil and power steering fluid as well, lol.

A 10mm socket and flat head screwdriver. That is all they use to assemble them. I am surprised they do not come with these as standard.
Really what are you going to do with a mess of tools on the side of the freeway? Get run over most likely.
In all probability it will be an electrical failure and all the tools in the world ain't going to fix it.
I have a plastic tarp for when going to carry something messy. Can also be used when changing a tire in a mess spot. Other than that call roadside assistance.

You are best off just making sure your roadside assistance is up to date (AAA or through your insurance) and getting repair from the truckguy or a tow to a shop where they can make a proper tire repair(off the wheel).

I recently had an experience with my 98 ford, I've owned since 99. I got a flat, I normally would not change it but was in a BIG hurry. Got my things out and no lug wrench! 12 years I ran around without a lug wrench!
So first thing I did with the Fit is make sure everything was there. The only "tool" I added is a quality tire gauge. The only tool I have added so far

The $42 bought me a 12-volt 300 PSI pump, a tire sealant-injector, 8 oz. of sealant, and a pressure guage, together with a rugged case. The pump connects either to the cigarette lighter socket or connects to the battery with wires or clips.
The torque wrench will help me do my own tire rotations after 4000 miles and keep me from straining the bolts too much. That is a topic I see on this website: the risks of breaking bolts from torquing them beyond 80#.

Maybe if you are going for a road trip where you expect periods of no civilization you can take them if it makes you feel safer, but many would save the weight and space.
Perhaps Jumper cables, maybe a set of pliers/multitool is all I'd add to what's alreadyin the car. Cellphone charger+cash+copy of my driver's license and pen/paper are in my glove.

I added a set of jumper cables, a LED flashlight, the Honda first aid kit, an inflator, and a dial pressure gauge. And I always carry my cell phone, and bought a cigarete plug charger for it. If I did more than run around town, I might add some break down provisions but for me, that's just extra weight.
