How empty before you fill up?

Take what the computer currently states (when the light turns on) subtract 1mpg and multiply it by 1.6. for example, light goes on with computer saying 38mpg. Multiple 37mpg x 1.6 = 59 miles. then you are running on fumes/empty/whatever's left in the lines.
I filled up today with no light on and added 8.68 gallons to the tank (357 miles) and I ended up with 41.15mpg. I CANNOT complain. Computer said 41.5mpg. ( I was surprised it was so close... usually it is 1mpg-2mpg high.)

For my city driving, I usually get 28-29 MPG, so I fill up when I get around 290 miles (I reset my trip odometer about every fillup). But its always below empty on the gas gague. I still never had reached 10 gallons in a fill-up (got 9.76 gallons one time).

i fill my Fit's around the 1/4 mark. reason being, my Fits are dd's and they need to be ready to work at all times. i have other things to think about than how empty i can get the tanks. lol
