I'm getting around 35 mpg (60/40 hwy and city) in Atlanta rush hour. I'm extremely pleased with that.

I doubt with the traffic here I'll ever see 40 mpg. I do know on long trips that 40+ mpg will happen. Kudos to all for the great driving tips!

I have a 2010 White Sport AT and I reach the 40 MPG also. This is for combined city and highway. Although most of my driving is on the way to work and bacl on the Garden State Parkway (which can get pretty congested at rush hour).

My trick is that I keep to 65 MPH. I do not slam the breaks. And if I see the traffic slowing down, I "coast" (meaning I step off the gas but do not hit the brakes until I need to).

I've put 33000 kms on mine in the past 10 months.

40 mpg is pretty easy on the highway and I dont have cruise control in mine.

I have a set of 175/65/15?'s I think (i think those are what im running... between my cars and 4 sets of rims its hard to remember whats what...) and I run my tires at 40 psi in the summer.

Other then that cruising normally at 110-120 kph I get just around 40 no problem.

On my recent trip from Edmonton, Alberta to Monroe, Washington (I drove about 3300kms in 4 days) I averaged around 38mpg.

On my way there I was cruising with two friends in their 350z's and passing in the mountains involved 3rd gear/4th gear rev limiter. Still got awesome MPG.

Now although it probably doesn't make a difference I do have a DIY intake using the stock airbox and the rear muffler was removed and straight piped.

I also usually have A/C cranked and I have a sub/amp in my car drawing pretty hard on the electrical too.

I increased my tire pressure from about 30 psi to 36 psi. I have noticed an increase in the miles per gallon from about 24 mpg to about 28 mpg. (driving the same routes in the city).

I have a brand new 2012 Honda Fit Sport AT. It is so new it still has less than 250 miles on it.

Many 150 mile trips on I-80, NJ-Pa, mostly flat, tires 38psi, no AC, windows closed, @55mph=41-43mpg, @65=36-38mpg, @75=32-34mpg.
Biggest factor; SPPED!, second; looking ahead to anticipate, and minimize changes in speed.

If they an't honk'n you'r driv'n too fast!

PS; 1992 Honda Civic, CX, over life of car, 200k miles, 10yrs, 38mpg.

I have that speed and acceleration is the key. I have gotten as good as 42.5 mpg average by going slowly (no more than 50 to 55) and minimizing acceleration.

Hi all , I just bought a 2013 Fit Sport AT last week with 74 miles and just had my first fill up. What I'm concerned about at the moment is that I averaged 26 MPG which was mostly city driving. I'm a bit disappointed at the moment since it is nowhere near what everyone is talking about here.

As for my driving style, it started the same, but since my first fill-up, I've been taking it very easy, and trying to keep it under 3000 rpm at all times. I'm hoping that the mileage will creep up as I put on more miles. I'm also curious as to when I should change the oil, but that's for a later discussion.

Happy Motoring all!

was it full to start with? The tank is very small,
so if you really topped it off this time as compared to first tank, that extra gas would lower your mpg. Give it some time to average out, & always try and fill it the same way. 1st click or 2nd click. Plus, winter is upon us, so those short city trips gobble the gas pretty fast.

My mileage has been increasing recently about two months ago I was down to 30.5mpg combined. Now I am back up to 34.7mpg. Not sure if I have changed my driving habits or the car is now broken in. But either way I am happy with almost 35 mpg.

poor mileage

I'm not impressed with our 2012 AT Fit mileage. Average driving in winter gets 31. Summer we never got over 33. We do a lot of highway driving and I have seen 37mpg, downhill, once. I was really trying hard to get that. Nowhere close to the advertised 40. I was willing to put up with this small, uncomfortable (for an old guy) car only if it got great mileage, but it doesn't. It is fun to drive, quick steering, cool paddle shifter, but our main reason for buying was mileage, and it ain't there. I can't see why 40mpg is so difficult. I drove a CRX HF back in the day, and I expected more from today's technology. I know airbags, crashworthiness add weight, but still. Honda -20 years on, 20mpg less. That's unacceptable to me.

On the highway (flat) I average 36-38mpg. Best 42-45mpg. Bigest factors:
Speed! by far, at 55mph about 40mpg, same route at 70mph 35mpg. The FIT like all hatchbacks, have crappy aerodynamics compared to sedans. (the Civic gets better gas mileage dispite more HP and heavier)

Driving style: Consistant gas pedal position or maintain consistant speed? IE the car slows going up hill. Fast acceleration or take your time?
Do you look down the road to antispate needed speed changes? Backing off gas way ahead, rather than stomping on the brakes.
Remember to change speed takes engery, eg heat from the brakes, or gasoline from the tank.

Crappy aerodynamics vs. sedans? Well, the Civic might have relatively good aerodynamics, but in general I wouldn't say that most sedans have good aerodynamics.

If anything, the fit/hatchbacks are generally closer to Kammbacks & boat tails.

I've had a few more fillups (up to ~1300 miles). The gas mileage is a LITTLE better, but not by much. If I'm using it, the majority of my driving is non-highway with some rolling hills, so I suppose it's no surprise that I've been averaging in the 28 MPG neighborhood.

I am usually consistent about filling it up the same amount each time, so no big differences there. It's been a while since posting, but the dealership DID fill it up prior to me taking delivery of it, FWIW.

Overall, I really enjoy driving it, and so does the Mrs.! It becomes addictive watching the instant MPG meter trying to squeeze out the mileage as best as I can. A month later, and I'm still happy with it. She's a keeper!

It isn't advertised as getting 40mpg. It's rated at 33 (or 35 for the base).

I also wish that my car got 40mpg, but I don't think it was misrepresented.

I got a wheel alignment (months after swift spring install) and stopped using my remote start. My onboard MPG meter now clocks at 37.1 MPG. That's up from my last fill up (28.7 MPG) using remote start for 3-4 minutes.

I really think the Cruise Control makes the car worse on the freeway (even on a flat land)

In my test, i tried to just feather the pedal and i seem to be getting higher mpgs at the same speed without the CC.

Quest for 40mpg is possible!

I know this sound dumb but keep a good coat of wax on the car. The slicker it is the less drag. Less drag equals more MPG's; thats what I have been doing for years . . . . .
