Help!!

I am so mad! I put on one of those refresh thingys on my dash-hooked in to the vent. Well, I guess the glass on the refresh got so hot that it has melted the plastic on the car above the radio display! It looks like some of it leaked too! GRRRRR!

Can anyone tell me what to do to make it look a little better? I can't pay Honda to replace the bloody dash.

Any response is appreciated.

Oh, you can try goo gone...

With luck, maybe most, almost all of it can be carefully removed.

But you'll always know it's there. At certain angles and in certain light it will suddenly seem totally obvious, like a ghost in a mirror...haunting you forever...

Goo Gone, Interior Detailing Spray....try it all...

Seriously..plastic that is melted? That's bad. Something on the surface, you can probably find a way to remove the majority of that. Cautious and specific application of goo gone would be my first step.

I don't think any of those will take care of the problem, from the looks of it the plastic has been pushed in from the attachment.

Goo gone might help with the leftover residue.

Pick up an Identical air freshener and see if there are any "disclaimers" like: Don't use with the heat on, plastic may melt, etc...

Then contact the manufacturer of the air freshener and see how their "insurance" wants to handle this. keep all of the old parts for "evidence" if needed.

The replacement part is $379 from hondapartsnow.com

I know in some cars, if you let those rearview mirror air fresheners touch any of the interior plastics, it will cause them to bubble up. Chemical reaction. I'm thinking that's what happened here.

Thank you specboy. I will go ahead and order the replacement part myself and get it installed. A client of mine said she has someone that does body repair and he might have a way of getting one cheap. If that doesn't pan out, I will plan to get it replaced at my 5,000 oil change. That is in another 3,000 miles.

I am so depressed over this. But at least the radio still works. At least the crap didn't seep in further and I caught it in time.

Lesson learned, I guess. Thanks everyone for your help....

another suggestion if you want to do some customization- you could get some interior dash trim and install it (less money than replacement part)--might cover up some of this. There are many styles and colors available.

Here are some threads with discussion:

Cool! I really like the carbon fiber look-i may just go that route. I never thought of modding my car, but this may lead me to the addiction!

I often wonder if modding started out by covering up things people wanted to hide and other mistakes

it'll be cheaper to buy an aftermarket radio and a dash kit.
