Why two (2) horns???

Why two (2) horns???
Does anybody know why Honda put two (2) separate horns in the FIT? While reading up on these forums I found out that one horn is the "main street" horn and the other is the "security system" horn. Why couldn't they have used just one single horn just like most cars do? Do the two circuits have to be isolated for any reason?
The original wimpy meep-meep horn sound on my 2011 FIT Sport is just embarassing so I'm planning to upgrade it. It'll be the my 1st mod to this new car. The new air horns I'm planning to get draw much more current than the stock fuse and wiring can handle so I'll need to build my own circuit. The stock fuse and wiring is only rated for 10 Amps but the new air horns draw more current (up to 18 Amps). That means I'll have to use a larger 20 Amp fuse, run new thicker wires directly to the (+) battery terminal.
Then in order to to keep the main horn circuit and security horn circuit isolated and separate yet able power the new air horn I'll have to use at least one (1) relay with two (2) diodes or two (2) relays.
Sorry if this has been answered before but I'm a noob here to the FF forums and couldn't find any specific answers in the searches.

Okay that most likely true but again... why 2 horns???
The 2 horns Honda uses are identically the same horn (part number) and they produce the same sound. The FIT was built by Honda to be an economy car so why not just save money on the extra part and just use 1 horn?
Is there something special about the regular horn circuit and the security system circuit that they need to be isolated and use 2 separate horns?
Only thing I can think of that might explain it is to give the security system it's own separate fuse. The fuse protecting the main street horn also protects the brake lights and cruise control. So maybe Honda designed the 2 separate circuits so that a faulty brake light only takes out the fuse to the street horns and not the fuse to the security system. Is that it? Maybe? But then again they still could have done the same thing by using 1 horn and 2 relays... saving money since cost of a relay is cheaper then cost of a 2nd horn.

Now back to the original question... Why 2 horns?

It probably has something to do with the security system.
Crook sees horn behind the grille
cuts wires to it
breaks into car
Alarm still sounds
crook says wtf and runs
Honestly, only the Honda engineers truely know why.

Sacman - sometime it just beez that way_ My first thought is so you can replace the meep-meep street horn with a Streble Nautilus and not have to worry about the other.

Okay that sounds somewhat reasonable. But then just elliminate the horn behind the grill and use only the location of the security horn (behind the left headlight). That's location is pretty in-accessible to theives. The horn would still sounds just as loud and it keeps it away and safer from water ingestion.

But regarding the Streble Nautilus Black... it's actually one of my 3 top choices for air-horn upgrades. The other 2 are Wolo "Bad Boy" (#419) horns and PIAA Sport Horns 400Hz & 500Hz.
All three horns come in compact 4-inch x 4-inch packages to easily fit the cramp engine comparments of our small cars, they don't have any plastic air hoses to get dry, brittle and crack, and they all use 2 harmonized box-horns that are loud yet pleasant to hear.

Sacman,
I installed Fiamm El Grande dual horns. They sound identical to the current dual horn of the Accord. Using 20 amp fuse, they are much louder than the stock meep meep horn, which, I agree with you, are not only embarrassing but a safety liability as well. Here is a vid of the Fiamms. They sound Euro-classy too:

Dude...save yourself alot of hassle and just upgrade both horns to a accord horn. Plug and play...no splicing, relays, headache. Sounds like a regular horn...unless for some reason air horns are your thing....

Besides, it really isn't a hassle for me to wire it all up. I used to install high end car audio and alarms systems professionally when I was going to college so I know what I'm doing.
Reason why I started this thread is because I really just wanted to find out why Honda designed our FITs to have 2 separate horns.

I'd prefer to just get rid of all the meep-meep sound from my FIT all-together. It really is just a matter of keeping the 2 horn circuits separate by using 2 relays or 1 relay with 2 zener diodes.

Nice thing on the nautilus is that it has a fitting for an air supply tube you route into a dry area to keep the water out of it. Great sound and a quality unit.

Who would dare to unravel the mind of the Honda Security System designer?
I've noticed on Toyota's and a lot of newer vehicles the alarm alert is now an "electronic beep" instead of a Horn sound.
I kind of like the electronic beep. Nicer at night when you don't want to wake up neighbors but are still paranoid as to whether you've armed the alarm.

I took an accord horn and replaced the alarm one and took Dual Hell Supertones to replace the main 1 horn, i have 3 now
The main horns sound amazing tho now! no one thinks twice about cutting me off.

I don't know this and am just making a guess. But, when my wife and I bought our new 09 it had a "generic" security system installed by the dealership. We didn't want it and they were able to take the system out in probably 10 minutes. If your dealership installed the security system there's two horns probably because when they opened the box with the security system in it there was also a horn included in the kit and that is why it was installed.

I suppose it could also be said that two is just better than one. What happens to your car horn if the security horn; the one that's arguably infinately more used compared, goes dead. Answer- your car horn, the one there for safety, still works.
I planned on swaping out my horn early on. Never did it. So many people in my world actually said they liked the meep-meep character of the Fit horn. Go figure. And since the driving I do on the roads I travel most doesn't really warrant me beeping it much, I usually don't. More often than not I use it to gently nudge someone at a light to move on. And it's always heard no matter what, from what I've seen. But even when most people would surely horn the shit out of a situation, I'm more involved in avoiding and steering tactics. The horn has always been my last resort and even then... But that's me.
