Vtec Engaged
Ok so I'm new here just bought a 2010 fit sport manual. I just installed a Takeda cai and took it out for a drive. Its a little more peppy but that not the point. I have read that the vtec on the L15a engages at 3,500 rpm's, well at around 5,000 rpm's I heard a significant change in engine noise I figure maybe resonance in the pip but just curious what you guys think. And yes it sounded exactly like it does on the SI so if its intake resonance it sure is a nice sounding one.

according to all the info i have read it does here is a source Jazz VTEC Power some how it could be different but everything I have read up till now says 3,500 rpm's

i-vtec on the l15a engages at 3500 for cam timing/phasing, 5k or so for the lobe changeover if I read the system description correctly. My car has the K&N Typhoon short ram, it also seems to have a more distinct 5k bump from the lobe change.

The current engine for the 2nd gen Fits is labelled L15a7. Most GDs use L15a1 (some countries use a2 and a4 also).

What is vtc? VTEC includes both valve timing and the extent of lift, right? Or is timing also a product of the lobe change? I'm trying to condense my ignorance into a tidy package.

Correct me if i'm off but I believe VTC is Variable Timing Control. Yes to your second question, VTEC stands for Variable valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. iVtec includes those qualities and also uses cam timing..

^^ Yep- exactly what I said iVTEC isn't those two plus anything- the i signifies VTC, and the VTEC means, well, VTEC- a second (and sometimes third) cam profile which is switched on at certain RPM's based on either rev count or load, depending on tuning.
VTC doesn't change the cam profile- it advances or retards the cam timing to best effect either power or fuel economy, depending on driving needs- Mark W.

This is a informative forum...yes..but we like to rag on each other & ourselves sometime too. Remember we are on the same team....don't get defensive. Team Fit FTW.
