Good point. Fully depressing the clutch is one of two positions the foot has to the clutch. On the floor or off the clutch.

(I thought I had replied to this post but maybe not)

I've owned many MT cars (Ford, Subaru, Corolla, Celica, Civic, RSX, Integra) never had one that had problems shifting into first from a standstill. It's one thing if you're moving and can't shift into first, but you shouldn't have problem at standstill.

Do you hold the clutch down while waiting during the red light?

What exact steps do you do you when wait at the stoplight? For example:
brake as I come to the stoplight
clutch down
shift into neutral
clutch up
etc.

Don't. Minimize the time your on the clutch. In neutral at the light foot off the clutch.

When I'm waiting at the stop light, I have my foot on the footrest pedal. Its not till the light turns green that my foot touches the clutch again.

That is the correct procedure. It shouldn't behave that way.

Try this as a test. While at the redlight, clutch down with shifter in neutral. Then when light turns green, shift into 1st (clutch down the entire time until after you've shifted into 1st).

I wouldn't sweat it, just be mindful. It is a brand new trans it sounds like and all the bearing races, slider hubs, synchros and gears are being worn in and de-burred.

Are you joking??? 15 mph trying to engage first? Please, don't try to resell your car....

To the OP - I had my manual for almost a year and a half and this happened only once and only because i didn't fully disengage the clutch. Something could be wrong with yours. If it does it habitually, compare it to other fits on the lot. You may have a defective transmission or the shifter linkage mechanism. It shouldn't slide in "like butter" either. This reminded me of my old car which developed this after being abused and jackrabbit starts at 4000 rpm.

After a couple of failed attempts, I disengage the clutch and then press it all the way down again and try again until finally it slides in like butter. I mean usually when ur shifting, there is a little bit of resistance to let u know the gear is engaged, but after it being stuck for a couple of seconds, it slides in like their is nothing there at all. I was like huh weird, but then it happened again when i went out to lunch! Anyone know what the hell is going on? Its a brand spanking new Fit Sport 11'.
It happened to me few times so far and honestly I am not worried about it since same thing has happened to every single manual transmission I have owned so far. When that happens to me I just slide it into a second gear and back into the first and it works perfectly fine. Nothing to worry about as long as you are not trying to force it into a gear when it refuses to go in.

There is too much panic on this forum. This guy's tranny is likely just fine so please, for the love of god, stop spooking him. This has been happening on my 20 year old accord since day 1 and the car still runs as good as new. Stop worrying and enjoy your fit.

And don't try to shift into first when you're going 15+ mph. I have no idea what's that all about. 1st is just to get started and for a really steep driveway or something. 2nd and 3rd is where most of the action is--plus 5th for cruising.
