Using Paddle Shifters

When using the paddle shifters are you supposed to let off the gas?

like Hootie said.... nope.
A little thing I like to do on the freeway is cruise with the gas down and when I want to pass just hit the left paddle to downshift but keep my foot at the exact same position/pressure. The car seems to accelerate faster than just punching it to pass. Then I hit the right paddle to shift back up once I've passed whom ever.

I believe it actually does since the fly by wire throttle takes a fraction of a second to respond while the downshifting is an immediate gear change.

I wish the throttle would be more responsive. I have been scared a few times crossing a road with lots of traffic when it feels like you stomp the gas and the car has to think about it for a second.

One word: Electronic Throttle Controller

Best toy I've installed. I use sport setting 3 for highway cruising and sport setting 7 for spirited driving. I had almost forgotten the Fit had that nasty little pause in it's throttle response before.

The paddles are so much fun. I used them a great deal throughout this insane winter too. I was always big on downshifting to brake in snow/ice, and the paddles make it that much easier to do.

Give TWPanson a PM, he sales ETCs on here and you can get a member discount from him. Here is his thread.

Really? If an ETC will get rid of the throttle pause, it will give me a valid reason to tell my wife I need to buy it

I do the same thing. It also helps that you can put it in "S" mode and start out in 2nd gear; makes it much easier to get to a start from a stop in snow and ice.

You can also skip gears with the paddles which is much like tripping the transmission kickdown when you are in D and go WOT (Wide Open Throttle). Just have to click the paddle twice, pause briefly, then click/hold it one last time.

You can also "rev match" as you down shift if you can get the timing right... I'd hate to see my ATF's condition from the amount of times I've done that.
