You know, I was just looking at Yahoo.com auto reviews. They have some very negative user reviews for the Fit. BUT... I wonder about those. Noticed the same negative review appears 3-4 times-- all by a different user. I mean, the review is word-for-word the same.
Anyone else tired of the Fiesta Fawning? I drove it, I didn't think it was that great. And the supposedly better looks? Front end is nice, but I think it looks oddly stubby. The Euro version is better.

Some people firmly believe that American cars are better than foreign cars, no matter what. It's mildly irritating, but expected.

they did mention mazda... and ford recently dropped mazda around the time that article was written.

the fiesta and mazda2/demio are built on the same platform, as well as the fusion and mazda6/atenza. seems like they are still working together, even if Ford doesn't own part of them anymore?

On November 18, 2008, Ford announced that it would be selling a 20% stake in Mazda, bringing its stake to 13.4%, and surrendering control of the company
ahhh i guess that was 2 years before this article, sorry about that.

It's rather clear the writer doesn't know how to use the manual trans. I live in the middle of a large town and mostly drive only during rush hour, plus I go into Toronto on a regular basis. I still net no worse then 7.5 and I'm still getting used to it. I don't think I could use 12L/100km unless for some reason I was gunning it, then braking hard, then gunning it trying to match the acceleration of a muscle car. >.> My first week with the car, with me learning the clutch and driving rather spiritedly, I got around 8L/100km :P
Point being, that reviewer must really not know how to handle the car. Unless he was idling for a few hours then driving 5km to the grocery store, I still think his numbers to be nearly impossible.

Oh NO! An amateur reviewer doesn't like a car that I happen to own. The NERVE!
My ex-wife loves thin mints. I think they're disgusting. Sometimes, people don't like the same things. It's not the Battle of Mount Meggido, folks.

I appreciate what the FIT is and what is has to offer. It is not priced or appointed in the "econobox" category; it's a few grand too expensive for that. I'd call it a "standard", or high optioned economy car. It has plenty of worthy competition, and it is not perfect. Fuel economy (for its weight and engine size), quality of materials (such as carpeting), AC cooling capacity, engine noise, could all be better, but all are issues comparable to other cars in its price point. These compromises have been outlined on other threads in this forum. I don't have any qualms about the power or the ride quality- bumpy over badly rutted streets, but quiet and stable well above highway speed limits with the auto transmission on my Fit Sport model. The car is well engineered, and thoughtfully configured to provide maximum cargo space- more usable space than much larger cars. There is no standout issue that would compel me to tell anyone not to get the Fit. The Fit is go!

Probably the most shocking opinion...
...within the review is saying the engine feels sluggish or moped like...
While obviously The Fit is NOT a sports car, I love the driving "feel". It feels quick and agile to me....
Sluggish is simply NOT an adjective I would apply to The Fit...unless of course your benchmark is comparison against sports cars...which is unfair given The Fit is a sub-compact.

to bring this back to relevancy, this month's issue of popularmechanics had a 1page comparo on Fit vs. new Fiesta. Does not look like it is avail online
On 5categories, the net of it was they picked the Fiesta over the Fit 4:1, although the stats were very close for many of them.
Fiesta won most of the performance car related categories, but they gave Fit the point on functionality(flexibility? forgot the exact category name).
Haven't driven the Fiesta, but I'm sure it's a pretty good car anyway.
I think it's a fallacy to say
"the Fiesta is an American-made car, fawning over it here in the states is just going to happen"
It's a dismissive of any argument or made by the other side, regardless if that argument is valid or not.

Guess they didn't try siting in the back seat, or did that fall under the category of functionality??? PM is vested in it's advertisers. I recommend to all, go to a dealer and sit in the thing. Then try sitting in the back seat and judge for yourself.
Ford is pushing the Fiesta big time. Catch phase advertising in a pinball street scene. Engine/drivetrain are heading in the right direction, they simply need a functional car to put over it.
Thing is they're selling to parents children.
