Roof Rack Stolen. D=

I had my drivers side window smashed last night and my new Pioneer head unit ripped out. I've only had this car a month.....
Everything said above in this thread is true. I don't understand why people can't leave other people's shit alone. I do feel violated, and it sucks that I can't have nice things because some douchebag is just going to fuck up my stuff to take what they want.

If it helps at all? That is really just too bad. I don't need to tell you it sucks, because you already know that better than I.
There is a huge psychological aspect to being robbed that is IMO actually often more damaging than the loss of the property. Other than the usual "insurance claims", "police reports"...my advice would be do nothing...
It's a bad day. But it will pass. Property can be replaced and damage repaired.

Very true. I was a victim of autotheft back in '03 and it took me a long time to get over wanting to kill someone.

90 DGRZ has a point about shock sensors not going off for roof rack theft.
Shock sensors will only activate alarm when someone tried to hit your window after eyeing your sound system or tried to vandalize your car or tried to hit your wheel lock lug nuts with a hammer.
If you are thinking of putting in an alarm, you may as well ask how much more $$ if you include shock sensors, motion sensors (to protect roof rack) and tilt sensor (to protect your sports rims) and prevent the FIT from sitting on 4 bricks. Unfortunately for us, FIT owners, the whole alarm system may get too expensive after all the add-ons....

Not sure what alarms you have dealt with, but I know my 13 year old Viper alarm on my 94 accord will go off if you knock on the window or tap the quarter panel. I paid 250.00 for it.
I know prying off of a locked roof rack will set it off.
I would hope to hell newer alarms setups would be just as good or can function in a similar manner. A basic Viper with a shock sensor runs 200.00
Not saying an alarm would have prevented this but they are cheaper than about any "standard" mod people are doing to their cars.
The craigslist search would be interesting. What the hell else would someone do with a stolen roof rack.
I would think they would had to have ruined something on the rack itself to where they would need to replace parts for as hard as they had to pry to get it off.

Back in '97 I took my brand new pimped integra down to socal since my gf's family lived down there (glendale). Funny thing was I made her promise to pay my deductable since I always heard that socal was full of thugs and gangs and that pimped cars got vandalized or stolen there. (Edit- yeah I understand that's an ignorant statement. Thugs are everywhere in many communities.)
FIRST NIGHT my car is parked on the street it gets bricked, windshield, sunroof back window, roof, and most of the panels. All I can say is that places get a reputation for a reason.
Even funnier, I found out months later there were two rival gangs near where I was staying (near glendale galeria), and one of them a car that looked exactly like mine.
If I lived down there I'd have the most invisible car I could.

If you dont live in a city like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, you may feel that your car is much less likely to be stolen. Unfortunately, this just isnt true. The truth is, Americas busiest metropolitan areas did not make the top ten list of U.S. cities with the highest auto theft rates. Whats even more surprising is carjacking is not the preferred method for car thieves. Carjacking only accounts for 3% of all motor vehicle thefts. Out of the approximately 1,095,769 motor vehicles that were reported stolen in 2007, only 32,873 were the result of carjacking. Fortunately, car theft rates in the U.S. overall have declined for the fifth year in a row down from* 8.1% in 2007 to 12.6% in 2008. However, in unlikely areas such as Modesto, California and Laredo, Texas, a significant increase in car theft was reported for 2008.
Overall, the entire state of California has the highest number of auto thefts in the nation thanks to the city of Modesto, which currently holds the #1 spot in the nation (among cities) for car theft. Los Angeles (#24), San Diego (#4), and San Francisco (#9) have also helped keep the state of California in the number one spot for auto thefts. The city of Laredo, Texas has the second highest number of auto thefts (among cities) in the nation, helping place the state of Texas in the #2 spot for auto theft. The city of El Paso, Texas is currently at #17 on the list of U.S. cities with the highest auto theft rates.
If youre wondering why cities such as Laredo and Modesto have higher auto theft rates than cities like New York and Los Angeles, the answer is simple. These cities are located on the U.S.-Mexico border a pipeline for thieves smuggling everything from drugs and weapons to money. Thieves use the stolen vehicles obtained from border towns to commit other crimes on both sides of the border. Western border towns are not the only areas where stolen vehicles are used to commit other crimes. Number 3 on the list of U.S. cities with the highest auto theft rates is Yakima, Washington -- the only northern state on the list. Yakima sits on a main road that runs between Canada and Mexico.
Metropolitan areas such as the San Francisco/Oakland/Freemont area and Sacramento made the list for other reasons. In addition to having a higher number of motorists than other major metropolitan areas, such as New York and Chicago, these areas offer quick and easy access to freeways. Although Chicago and New York have a high number of motorists, they do not offer quick and easy access to highways.

interesting reads, lyon.
i know some hipsters just wanted the thing. they are definitely gonna have a hard time using it since all my attachments were locked and even if they try to pull the core out you'll clearly be able to tell the pieces were stolen. and they'll need new Q towers since prying it locked will make it useless.
i would hate to have my alarm go off with a tap or a knock on the window. that just means the brain's shock sensor knob is set too high. the alarm will go off with every passing car with exhaust, strong wind, etc. with nothing but false alarms. like those annoying alarms that go off in the mall parking lot, lol.
anyways, i'm over it now. car's in the shop and can't wait to get it back.
