The "KISS" rule is this... keep it simple stupid. <-- don't mean to be offensive, that's just what it is.
Just tell her to get gas as soon as she can, and then forget about it.

Not to be offensive in anyway, but it's common sense to go fill up before a trip, or keep an eye on the gauge when driving.
as 5hit said at least 30 miles left.
I can't understand people who run out of gas on accident.

I can't wait to get the owners manuals, etc. to go over everything.
thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.

From the owner's manual...
When the indicator comes on, there
is about 1.64 US gal (6.2 L) of fuel
remaining in the tank before the
needle reaches E.is about 1.64 US gal (6.2 L) of fuel

Unfortunately our low fuel light comes on earlier than most cars. Seems ridiculous as it gets better gas mileage. You probably can go 45 miles or more on this amount. Most indicators in cars come in at 1 gallon. Likely the shape of the gas tank limits where they can put the indicator.

You're almost empty in the gas tank. find gas station soon. Probably within 35 to 50 mikles.

Or as a Navy Commander I once worked for said "the KISS rule is: Keep it Sweet & Simple" which I much prefer.

In Canada, Honda provided 5 years worth of Honda Roadside assistance.. not sure about in the U.S
So, if your Honda Roadside assistance is still valid, the worst case scenario if your FIT ran out of gas and stalled on the road would be to call Honda Roadside assistance and ask them to bring a emergency gal of gas. You will have to pay for the gas of course

Congrats on the new fit! I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I see you already got your answer and she got gas. I have got 50+ miles on the light. I get real nervous once it gets below the E line! Now that I work closer to home I don't have that happen anymore.

I started a thread about this yesterday.
With my Fit? The low fuel light comes on very early. I typically can go 40+ miles after it has illuminated. But it is...what it is...a warning light. Tell your wife to fill up.
I've never run out of gas...but at least on my Fit, the light comes on well above the actual "E" mark...and I have found that I can push it all the way to the needle being on "E" and that usually is about an additional 40 miles.
However, I would not risk this, as each vehicle might be a little different. Basically the light obviously is a warning. You can get a feel for how much you want to push it...or knowing your vehicles real limits...
In my posts, it seems the consensus is that Honda was very conservative with their warning light...it comes on plenty early to allow for plenty of time to find a station.
