Hey all, I'm going to pick up an '09 Fit Sport tomorrow, and I'm curious for some input about the extended warranty that was offered by the dealership (I know those warranties can sometimes be a real rip off, but just thought I'd check to see what your impressions are).

It's a Certified Pre-owned with 25k miles and 18 months left on the original 3y/36k factory warranty. Because the car is certified, the factory warranty is automatically extended to 4y/48k (which will expire July 2013). The final warranty is the 7y/100k powertrain warranty that Honda tacks on to the Certified used cars. That warranty will go until 2016 (assuming I don't rack up 100k first!).

Here's my conundrum: The dealership will extend the factory warranty out to 7y/100k for $795. This will essentially make the last leg of the warranty (after 4 years or 48k and up to 7 years and 100k) equal to the factory warranty instead of just powertrain.

Any thoughts?

 

that sounds pretty good, although I would make sure that it's an actual warranty backed by Honda or "Honda Care" instead of some BS service contract through some third party.

 

My feelings are this...

...for a vehicle that has a terrible reliability record purchasing an extended warranty may well be worth it, but for a vehicle such as the Honda Fit with an excellent reliability record throughout its history you may be tossing money out the window.
