Weird elastic band hanging from my door...

First of all, hello all I've been lurking on these forums since July or so when I purchased a 2010 MT Fit Sport (orange revolution). I love my car to death, and this seems like a great community, so I figured I'd register.

Anyway, a week or so ago I noticed that there's this white elastic band hanging from the bottom of the front driver-side door; something inside my car door has ripped/snapped. Window and locking controls seem to work fine. I was about to just get a pair of scissors and remove the band, but I started wondering if the elastic band might not be somehow related to the airbags, which would require some more expert attention.

Any thoughts on what it could be? Can I just pull and snip it off? It doesn't seem like a big deal, but being a new car and all, I'm somewhat paranoid and figured I might as well ask somewhere. Thanks!

Cut it! It is part of the preservation from shipping. Pull it as far as it will come out and cut it as close to the door panel as possible.
