First Tank of Gas (long)

First Tank of Gas (long)
I have had my fit for 3 weeks now and filled it up with gas for the first time. The car came with a very full tank (way past the F mark). I have been driving short trips up to 5 miles or less,no highway, speeds between 30 and 45-50. The weather has been cool to cold with alot of snow at times, and I have had the defroster on fan speed 1 or 2 most of the time. The fuel gauge read about 1/8 so I decided to fill it up. Odometer reading was 11 miles when I got the car and 247 when I got gas today. The fuel pump shut off and I squeezed out about $.50 more. When I looked at the gauge,it was just above the F, so I could have put a little more in. I estimate maybe .5 gallons. According to my calculations I got about 28.5 MPG,although this is an average on my part. The trip computer showed 28.6 MPG,and I did not arrive at the former number using the trip computer. The gas station/convenience store is on my way to work, and I stop to get a fountain soda on my way in to work. Each time I get a soda, they discount the price of my gas by $.05 per gallon, and it accumulates. Today I had a $.55 a gallon discount. This brought the price to $2.64.9 a gallon. So my first fill up was $22.15. I am enjoying my new Fit, and this inexpensive and infrequent fuel trip was a nice bonus. Ironically,I didn't even pay for the fuel. I refinanced my previous vehicle several months back, and the bank was giving a $50 gas card as a bonus. I still have just over half of that left. This sure beats my past six years of driving BMW's that required premium fuel.

Good for you. And when the weather warms up, you'll do even better. I fuel up twice a month. A tank lasts me approx 2 weeks, unless I'm running around more than usual.
Enjoy your Fit. Oh, and don't become a diabetic over soda for the sake of cheaper gas ;>)

I don't drink any more diet soda than usual.

They have a program with Price Chopper Supermarket and Sunoco here. The more you spend on groceries, the lower your price per gallon of gas. The problem is, I don't shop there. The gas station convenience store deal works for me. They give me a discount when I would buy there anyway.

My wife has had a 2006 CRV since new in Jan '06. I have never seen such a trouble free car that just goes. I would like to see an upscale Acura version of the Fit at some point. I like my bells and whistles, as long as they work. The Japanese know how to do electronics. The Germans, not so much.
