K20 swap question

K20 swap question
I've read where many people of done this swap but the last thread I read about this, one member asked the OP how many miles were on the engine which brings me to my questions.
Are the swaps used engines and if so why? Are they too expensive to buy new or are they not made anymore?

lol. really? Of course its cheaper to buy used than from dealership. Everything cost 2x or 3x more from stealership.
and too expensive can mean different from you and others. your too expensive may be considered cheap to others...vice versa.

Honda make the most reliable engines and Ive seen the K20 stock motor run 20 pounds of boost a month ago with no problems except for traction. The K20 is a JDM motor which means Made in Japan like all of there motors. If They are shipped here for the cars made here they are considered US domestic market motors. It costs to much to warehouse new motors but there are rebuilt motors for sale but buyer beware. The best deal is to buy a car with that motor and sell everything and use the motor.

Duh....I know used is cheaper than new. I was asking if that was one of the main reasons people would swap in a used engine.

Yes my sons first engine a b16a had unknown miles and ran hard for a 2 seasons of racing and experimenting. The motors is still around his group of friends but has been rebuilt a few times. Honda's cylinder head is the secret of the power and reliability.

If I remember correctly, a number of the engine swaps come from japan as people often turn over new cars on a regular basis. I heard somewhere that keeping a car more than 4 or 5 years in Japan means much higher emissions costs so cars with low miles end up going to a shop where the engine is removed, then shipped & sold here.
