Spotlight laminate - Cheap & Easy !

I wanted to protect my spotlights from stones but 'Laminex" is not available where I live. Here's my solution. Pic 1 - Buy a yellow plastic ring folder from any stationery store . Pic 2 shows that it's 90% transparent. Cut a piece out, remove the spotlight cover and place behind ( Pic 3 ). Replace cover ( Pic 4 ). The plastic is held in place by the cover. Total cost - US1.50. Total time to install - 20 mins. Time will tell if it discolours ( or melts ! ) but there's enough material to do both spots 4 times !! so if it fails miserably it's not been a major cost.

I would imagine the transparency, or state of the material would change with exposure to the weather. Post pics after abut 6 months.

Thanks for the replies. The plastic won't melt, initially it softens then hardens with the heat. For 12 years I've been using a similar materiel as coloured filters in 12v spotlights in a commercial bar - these lights are on for 10 hours per day, 7 days per week. After about 4 months some of the colour bleeds out around the center. However, I don't use my car every night and don't always have the spots on when I am driving, plus there's cool air blowing against the plastic when driving so I think I'll get at least 6 months usage before having to replace them ( which is a 15 minute job ) . As the A4 folder will do both spots 4 times it means that I've protected my spotlights from stones for 2 years for USD 1.50 - I can live with that, I'll keep you posted.

Very creative (and not to forget economic!).

Did you just take out the whole unit by removing the screw at the front?

Planning to do mine soon. Thanks!

Hi khfooey. My spots were supplied and fitted by Honda but they're not Honda original so I don't know if my fixings are the same as yours. Look at my installation photos - on Pic 4 you can see one screw hole, the other is lower down on the other side. By removing these the cover comes off ( Pic 3 ) and I don't have to touch the spots. Hope this helps
