oil life expectancy

How long does it take for the oil life expectancy to go down to zero? I bought a new fit and I have already put 1000 miles on it, but the oil life expectancy is still at 100%. Do you think that is right?`

The average is about 1000-1200 miles for every 10% on the Maintenance Minder (MM) for those that aren't in awful stop/go traffic or mash on the gas every chance. if you are averaging high 30's on your fuel economy, you can expect to do your first oil change around 9-10K miles
if it's not down to 90% by 1500 miles, I'd begin to wonder. rignt now, you are on track for it to drop any day though.

Welcome to the forum. LOTS of great info here so read lots, search lots, and start dropping your input.

for me, during summer the minder drops 10% for every 1000 to 1100 miles driven.

during winter, it drops 10% about every 700 to 800 miles.

My 90% came around 850 miles on the ODO getting average 33.0 MPG.

I've had my Fit 14 months, it's got 7,000 miles on it, and it's at 40%.

Time to change the oil Krizz. You're past the one year mark.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but it is tempting to wait until the MM says it needs done.

Still, it's been through one winter on this oil, so I'll probably take care of it in the next couple of weeks.

covered this before:

We really need an FAQ sticky for the new owners that covers all the things that have been discussed a million times.

Oh God no... not something else at the top of every page. there's already too much useless crap at the top like all of those worthless stickies, how to post a G/D picture, that stupid GD/GE debate thing, how to sit on a toilet, blah blah blah...

although. this one would be good. Get rid of the rest of the crap and post this at the top. maybe INCLUDE the posting of images, Include other stuff like the GE/GD debate.... Clean up the site a little and put useful stuff at the top.

Good idea Lyon

Is there a way to disable the notice? My sister may be getting a Fit soon and I'll probably be changing the oil myself with Amsoil 0w-20

1000 miles won't get you much down the meter especially if its synthetic oil, which if your Fit was new at zero miles should have. Depending on the severity of useage you can get 15,000 miles to zero. However, thgats not advisable. Other than break-in, about 6000 or 7000 miles is all you should do before changing oil AND FILTER.

there's no way to disable it that i know of, but you can reset it when it tells you to perform service. the procedure is detailed in the owner manual. look under "maintenance minder" or something.

it goes something along the lines of press and hold the reset "stick" in the gauge cluster for 10 or 15 seconds (it's pretty long).

then when the display starts to flash, release the reset "stick" briefly, then press and hold it again until the display resets.
