Need Wheel Opinions Fast!

A friend is getting shipped away for awhile, and wants to sell the wheels he purchased a little over a year ago (never installed them). I Photoshopped and they look great.... they remind me of some $3000.00 wheels I saw on a Lotus Elise not long ago.

Most internet tire/wheel dealers say these wheels will work fine on my GE. Some say if I plan on lowering I should wait until after I've installed the wheels because of wheel offset.

Specs, and questions about "workage":

Size- 16 x 6.5
Offset- 40
Bolt Pattern- 4 x 100 mm
Color- machined
Bore Size- 73 mm
Weight- 16.5 lbs.

Recommended Tire Size:

205/45/16
215/40/16

Will they work? I'll at least achieve mega-flush after install.

Any thoughts on the above recommended tire sizes? Possible rubbing? Since the wheel weight is around 1/2 pound lighter than stock wheels, will the wheel/tire size cause any difference in actual speedo numbers... will they slow acceleration... any noticeable differences in any areas?

These wheels cost my friend around $175.00 a piece... he wants to sell them to me brand new, and for only $45.00 a piece in order to move them quickly before he has to leave.

I do like these wheels!

Thanks for the info/opinions.

I am a newbie here but I will respond simply because I was having a 'wheel issue' and like you, came here for advice. Most people gave me 'you CANNOT go less than 45 offset' and 'you CANNOT run less than 195 tires' etc....I had a timeline in which I had to order the wheels and didn't get a really quick answer so I was sweating, ordered the wheels, and then I started getting the above responses, so I was thinking OMG I'm gonna have to dish for new tires etc. I have stock (my ride isn't lowered-its stock height) tires 185/55/16 on a 2010 Fit. The wheels I ordered are 16x7, 4x100, 38 offset. I had several people tell me no way no how would those tires work with those wheels. THEN, thankfully, I had at least 3 people who actually RAN those same specs or close to it and they were fine. One person rubbed only after they lowered the car. But the stock alloys on the 10 Fit are 16x6 with the above mentioned tire size, so you should be fine. Don't let anybody tell you any different. Most of the people who told me what they told me were more or less voicing their 'opinion' and not fact. I needed fact. (There is a thread if you click on the threads I've posted in, which aren't many at this point, that mentions wheels/offset and you can read all the answers I got and that should help but like I said, keep in mind a lot of them ended up being opinions more than anything). Hope this helps some!! I get my new wheels put on today so I am soooo excited!

Yes, it helped... thanks for your reply! Oh and, I'd be excited if I were getting new wheels today too!

Thanks for the rapid response, "Hunnie"! Enjoy the new wheels!

a wheel conservative will tell you the recommended wheel/tire spec... but in all honesty, you can run any wheel in any width (within good reason) if you're willing to invest the time and money to make it work.

roll your fenders, cut them, pull them, widen them, etc... the perfect stance is a labor of love

you wont have any problems at all...those aren't going to give you the hellaflush look you think they will though. +40 offset on a 6.5 inch wheel will only put you out about 5mm further than stock.

Actually it'll be 19mm further out than stock. Stock sport wheel is 16x6 +53. Stock base wheel is 15x5.5 +53. The wheels in question are 6.5" wide at +40. Half an inch wider = ~6mm wider, plus the 53-40mm difference = 19mm difference.

Wheel Offset Calculator

Current wheel specs: 6" at +53
New wheel specs: 6.5" at +40
Inner clearance: 7mm More
Outer clearance: Extend an extra 19mm

No thanks! All of that is cool, and looks great... but don't think I want to get into rolling, cutting and pulling, etc. GE8 body parts!

No hellaflush, really? Bummer! Yet, if you listen to some people about how the 40 offset will cause them to rub and stick way out, you would think hellflush would have been at least one "positive" from the new wheels.

Ah well... at least I may achieve [i[close[/i] hellflush.

Yeah, I was thinking that too... actually kind of a smart idea. It's just that I barely have time to even read and/or post lately.

As far as the Photoshopped images? Since I've decided to go ahead with the wheels maybe I'll just wait until install. The Photoshopped pics weren't that great... I just slapped them into place within PS to get a quick look at, well, "the look." Didn't save them, or size them in proper proportion.

If they take a while to come in then I'll try and post some serious mock images. Ehh, maybe I'll do it anyway. If I get a few more minutes I'll do it. I'm still trying to find time to edit and post 2 DIY mods.

If you're at stock height I really doubt you'll rub. I'm running on +40 offset but with 195/50's, and the front sticks out a bit but I have yet to run into any rubbing issues. So your 205/215's will definitely stick out a little more (especially compared to the back), but if you're on stock suspension I highly doubt you'll rub unless you hit a nasty bump.
