H-Fit Short Shifter

H-Fit Short Shifter
After using a custom 40mm shifter extension for almost a year I was starting to get tired of the increased shifter travel. I finally purchased and installed the H-Fit short shifter kit since I didn't want my shifter any lower. It feels soooo much better. The throws seem slightly smaller than stock but my shifter retains the same height and everything is much more precise.
Packaging - Very impressed with the packaging. The parts were protected in a custom cut foam holder placed in a box. The box was then boxed again for shipping. I was expecting them to be thrown in a bag banging against each other. Also everything was included and a disposable tube of Loctite, nice. Step by step instructions with pictures were great and a refreshing change to the usual Engrish ones from China. The only thing was that the instructions were for a GD not GE (newer) model so there were a few small changes. The center console attaches slightly different and one of the pins is different
Parts - Precession machined pieces, nice work. The spacers also seem to be black anodized. I think the spacers were aluminum but they sure were light. All pieces fit nicely.
Install - Super easy for those who wrench on cars. The hardest part was getting the stock white cup off. I had to go hunting for mine after it went flying off and bounced off the garage ceiling and wall. It is on there TIGHT.
- The only thing I am worried about is that white stock cup that goes over the ball is reused, but mine is now slightly looser. I didn't bust the calipers out to measure the ball to see if they are different but I am thinking the cup gets stretched when removed. The last thing I want is for the shifter cable to fall off on a road trip. Anyone have experience with this install on a GE? I think I am going to have to make a trip to the dealer to get a new cup. Cheap to replace but a PAIN if it slips off on you in the middle of a road trip.

You say the shift throws are slightly smaller. So there's not a big difference? Is there the same amount of shift effort? Any loss of feel?
I made a mistake of installing a short shifter on my Accord and it ended up being too high an effort, and I LIKE higher effort controls.
Is the loose cap due to the fact that the parts were meant for the GD? The shifter was revised and improved from the GD.
How difficult is it to install for someone who doesn't work on cars at all?

it's too late for in2turbos now but for those installing any adaptor style SS kit there's an easier way to pull off the plastic sock from the stock shift lever. bring water to a boil, remove from heat, then soak the plastic sock in there for 5-10 min. it slips off easier without stretching or deforming the plastic then after it cools down it should contract back to its original size.
@CrystalFiveMT
in2turbos says it was loose after he popped it off.

My neighbor's 13 year old grandson was nice enough to install the H-Fit shift for me. Ity works out well with the JDM console with armrest..... It is pretty much the same type of thing that was popular on air cooled beetles 40 years ago. I like it!

- I am not sure but I think it is due to deforming the plastic when removing like GD3_Wagoon said. I would try his tip.
- That I can't really say since it really then depends on the person. I say try it. There is not too much to mess up. The only thing is that you will need some basic tools and a 2mm Allen wrench.
