2010 Fit "Theft Code" dealer add-on
Hi all:
Will pick up 2010, base, manual next friday and while looking at dealer options installed I see $895 for stone guards, wheel locks and rear cargo tray, which amount to $374.04 in dealer installed retail cost. Also, there is a theft code which costs $595 in addition to $895 for a total of $1490. Has anyone else received this theft code dealer option with the ridiculous price and what about $895 for protection kit options? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

what's a stone guard?
The rear cargo tray is $101 list, and sells online for about $75 (plus shipping).
Does it include floor mats? Carpeted mats are about another $75 online for Honda mats.
Wheel locks on a base fit? Does it include alloy wheels?
Theft code, what's that? Etching the vin on the glass and other parts?
This sounds like about $1,300 profit for $200 worth of upgrades (if that).
I'd walk if they refuse to knock it off. There's no shortage of fits.
Check this site to know what accessories really cost: college hills honda.
Check this site for an idea of what they are selling for.
Also watch out for dealer ADM fees. They say "administration" fees but they mean "additional dealer markup."

My question was if anyone knew what Theft Code was? Dealer is saying this is something like gap insurance, but I am not believing this. I am not paying these unbelievable costs as they were added to car before I arranged the purpose. I am finding out what I will actually be charged for these items.

gap insurance would be on the loan, if anything, and pays the difference if you total the car between what you owe and what it's worth (if it's less).
I have no idea what they're talking about when they say "theft code." It's probably just etching the cars VIN # on windows and other parts making it more easy to identify if it's been stolen and sent to a chop shop and less attractive to thieves. Maybe they include some theft insurance that pays the difference between what you owe and what your comprehensive will pay, if it's less.
It's not worth it. Talk to your insurance agent before you get any added insurance from the dealer.
That goes for warranties too. They'll try to talk you into an extended warranty when you enter the finance guy's office. The additional warranties are very profitable for the dealers...
If they can't explain it any better I'd go to a different dealer.

They are saying this is something that they suggest putting on all vehicles for theft to pay for any upside down money that you may owe to bank if your car is stolen. Same thing as GAP insurance does . Anyway I was not charged. Stone guards are splash guards on each wheel. Sorry for wrong name. Anyway I am still working on what I am actually paying for their dealer installed retail price of $374.04 , but shown as installed items of $895. Quite a $500 + profit for over priced items anyway. These items were already installed before I looked at car. Thanks

Steve:
Car price, less license and state taxes, (ca) is $14,930 plus dealer installed options of $320 (originally $895) for a total of $15,250. Options are rear cargo tray, mud flaps and wheel locks. That is the deal. Sound ok to you? I am going to ask for keyless option to be done at this deal also. Thanks John

check truecar.com for your area.
Still not sure what's up with the wheel locks; do they steal a lot of steel wheels there?
You might want to get them to throw in floor mats along with the keyless entry (keyless costs them less than $40 as the car comes with all the electronics, just not a remote entry key). I felt silly driving out without floormats but I didn't realize they didn't come with the car. Got them online.
And watch out for the finance guy; he will try to sell you thousands in warranties and service programs. You don't need it. If you change your mind you can always add an extended warranty later.

Thanks again. Financially, deal is done and they also threw in their complete keyless opener set up, $269.00. I will get all weather mats, as there is too much dirt here in the lower desert of california for regular mats. Wheel locks are needed, as I spend a lot of time in Mexico and they steal wheels/tires all the time. They even stole my USA license plate for the 2011 sticker on my last car, causing me to get locking license plate frame which makes it nearly impossible to steal. Will do same for fit. Advised GM that I am finished and will entertain no more add ons. I can always purchase extended warranty before my 3 yr/36,000 is up. Many thanks for your suggestions. John
