Trunk strut explosion???

Hello Fitters,

Recently got an 08' grey honda fit sport with 33K on the clock, currently out of warranty < 40K. Recently, my gf states the trunk will no longer stay open...sure enough...it won't. As far as I can tell one of the trunk struts has failed (kinda greasy on the strut) . Recently it's been pretty hot here...not sure if that has anything to do with it.

SOOOO...... has this happened to anyone with such low mileage???. The plan is to replace both.

meh, stuff happens. go to kragen autoparts and buy some struts that are the same length and swap them out

bummer. haven't heard of it.
Suggest you just get the OEM part.

There's diagrams at Honda Parts and Honda Accessories from Bernardi Parts - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories
or Auto Parts - Parts.com, For Every Part of Your Life
to get the right part number:
04741-TK6-000
04746-TK6-000

looks like about $45+Shipping for each side.
