Hybrid Fit Debut Announced by Honda

It is official. On sale for 2011, but there are no plans to sell it in the US! Debut is next month at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

It uses the same powertrain as the current Insight, and Honda is expecting "comparable gas mileage" to the Insight.

I bet it will be like the Civic, where they added a hybrid, but did not cut the non-hybrid. They are selling Fits in the US as fast as they can make them, so I can't imagine they would want to stop that.

I love the green metallic color! I wonder when it will be available for sale in the US ? 2012 0r 2013? I'd consider trading in my 2010.

If this comes out overseas as either a 2011 or 2012 year model, it'll be safe to say that the hybrid model may come out in North America (Excluding Mexico) a year later. This is assuming that Honda follows suit like they did with the GD and GE chassis for the US and Canadian models and the GE is due for a minor model change for the 2012 or 2013 model year.

Forget these Gas/hybrid cars, I want to see a Fit with a small direct injected Turbo Diesel! like the VW TDI just with out the oil consumption issues. I think a honda diesel would ROCK! would get even better mpg. Hybrid FIT still cool though.

Hmm...

I'd be curious as to how much cargo capacity is maintained or lost with the addition of a battery pack.

Also, I don't know. I like Hybrids, but The Fit as is, get's such good mileage that I don't know if a 15 mpg (or less) improvement would really be enough for me to consider a switch.

If The Fit could get in the 50's...or even 1st generation Insight numbers...then I'd take a serious look.

+1 I totally agree and am keeping tabs on it. If the cargo room is compromised then I may pass....if not...then I just might have to trade up.

did the civic lose cargo space with it's hybrid model?

in the honda hybrid world there are no such things as batteries, only the dreadful IMA system.

And where does the motor in the IMA system get its power? From a battery pack, of course!

I'm not holding my breath for a US debut. IMO, there's going to have to be a reduction in the Fit's space efficiency in order to add the battery pack. Besides, Honda already sells a hybrid Fit here. It's called the Insight.

Couldn't agree more. Something about where the stuff they use in the batteries comes from as well.
