Trip to Erie PA

just a MPG story. i got back from a trip to Erie PA sunday night, mostly highway driving there and back. i did do a little city, stop and go trafic as well. from Rochester NY i filled up and did the round trip at 375 miles when the low fuel light came on. i then filled up the tank with 9.75 gallons of fuel. so its like getting 38 mpg. not bad for 3 adults and a baby with gear doing 65-75 mph

I always thought fuel capacity on our Fits was 10.6 gallons.
Is this accurate?

I believe that's the tank capacity but there's some excess in the filler tube too since the tank is a bit further down than most cars.

Tank is 10.6 Gal. The light would have come on for the OP at right around 9 gal used so he went probably another 27 miles past when the light came on before filling up. You could add more if you went past the shutoff and filled more gas up the neck. Youd be taking a risk but because the tank is under the driver's seat instead of like most cars, under the rear passengers seats, the filler tube has a bit further to go from the gas cap to the tank itself. Still not recommended but it is extra room where gas could be stored.

I didn't know tank was under the seat until after the purchase. Its kinda strange to hear it swooshing around! Hope it is safe though.

Some attendants pump it way full (past shutoff), some don't - sucks they won't even let us pump our own gas here.

Seems a good spot actually - the tank is protected by the frame since its under where passengers go... by the time anything gets to the tank, the occupants are likely in serious trouble.

Spent 28 years there; born & raised... now reformed... not really . Had an attendant do damage to my prelude by topping off the tank. After that, told them not to top it off, every time. Hassle... but it worked. oh, and their insurance company paid for the damages.

I'm comfortable where the tank is too.
