500 mile Fit on 2,500 mile trip
Got some much needed vacation time this July.
Decided to take the 2010 Fit Sport (instead of the 2009 Base) because of the Cruise Control.
I live in Miami, FL and my trip to my girl and I to NC and MD.
Miles at start:
All packed up:
After filling up gas, I noticed these two and stopped by:
On the way to Kill Devil Hills, NC:
(Spent a week there and had heaps of fun.)
Notice the Town's Crescent Logo.
Parked the Fit and took the Hummer for some 4x4 fun on the sand. Many of the house require a 4x4 to get to. Crazy, but awesome.
Then I went to a beach that I've always wanted to spend time at Cape Hatteras. All I can say is that I cannot wait to get back there. The beach is so remote it was unreal.
Here is a pic of the Fit with the Cape Hatteras Light House in the back ground (yes we climbed it before hitting the water):
Since I had my girl with me, there was no way that we weren't stopping by the "Inn at Rodanthe" from Richard Gere's movie "Nights in Rodanthe":
Now, on the way to Ocean City, MD. This is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and it's underwater tunnels.
Arriving in Ocean City, MD. My Aunt sent a limo to take my Cousins, my girl and I to OC from Kill Devil Hills, but I wanted my car for my stay there so I drove.
It sucks knowing I could have been partying with them back there for the 4 hour drive, but I couldn't imagine being without a car for a week.
We've had a Summer home in Ocean City since I was a kid and have been there every Summer so I guess I neglected to take car pics there.
Arrived back in Miami, about 2,500 miles later.
Had the Scan GaugeII plugged in the whole trip:
Finally the report:
I drove 17 hours straight from Miami to Kill Devil Hills. Only stopped for gas. According to the Scan GaugeII, the hottest the engine coolant got was 184 degrees. It was usually between 179-182 degrees. Not bad for 17 hours of driving in the summer heat.
I've had the 2009 Fit Base since Nov. of 2008 and have always been happy with the seats (but never took a super long trip with it). Now I wished that they had a little more cushin. They are kinda stiff for super long trips.
When in Cruise Control, the Fit down shifts over every little hill. Kind of annoying but not the end of the world.
I average 36-38 MPG with my 2009 Base Fit and that's with repeat starts (cause it takes me over a week to get through a tank) and 20% City driving.
Going from tank to tank on the highway on this trip with no cool downs and warm ups, I only averaged 34-36 MPG. Maybe it's because she's new. May be it's because I was going over 70 MPH.
I think that the sweet spot for high MPG is 45-60 MPH. Anything above that, and it drops big time.
All minor stuff in my opinion. Very happy to have two of these great and fun cars.

LOL. Don't worry, I cleaned her up within 24 hours of getting home. Pics are on the way.

cool pics, i drove 4700 miles from Winnipeg, Canada to Sacramento, CA to LA to Anaheim, then Vegas and back to Canada
I was averaging 35-42mpg, depends on the wind and your speed.
I also noticed 70-75mph is ok, anything more then that you lose MPG by about 20%
Shell V POWER gas makes a huge difference on highway driving, I was getting 430 plus miles per tank, drove from Sacramento to LA to Redondo beach on 1 tank of gas, 417 miles and still had almost a 1/4 tank left!
