Dance to drive?
A locksmith friend of mine says that I may be able to get a blank key cut and use it to get into the vehicle and then do a "dance" of so many presses of the peddles in sequence for an "emergency start" (a one shot affair to get back to the dealer, supposedly). Anybody ever hear of this? The repo guys may use this method to bypass the need for the "chip" to talk to the car.
I am just trying to setup an "emergency key" without having to reprogram the original 2 and avoid the $100-120 cost at the dealer. I would even like to just "clone" the key, at a locksmith, if possible. I have a blank with the chip, already.
Other than the innate cost and complication of the keying, this is a great car. 40K miles and it still runs like new, yet I use more oil than I would like, but I drive it kinda hard. Have switched to 10/30 synthetic, which has reduced consumtion a bit and I drive in hot weather most of the year (LA).
I would REALLY like to setup rear independent suspension and disc brakes back there, but can readily live with what I got. Other car is the real sports car- '69 Jag E-Type (XKE). Other fantasy is to make this a woody wagon, once the chips and dents on the side build up and baby moons and trim rings, for the wheels. Thanx. Huff 2009 tidewater blue base model.
