my exhaust ticket update......
so i go into chp in el cajon ca.
Me: i got an exhaust ticket idk y.
officer: do you have the ticket
me: ya but im not going to lie i have a moddified exhaust i just dont see what illegal about it could you help?
we get up and go out side he sees the pipes and has a shocked face but just asked me to start it. he heard it backfire a little and told me to hold it at 4k rpms. after a few seconds of my fits throttle actin funny he said it wasnt too loud to be illegal. so we go inside and he goes and pulls out a FAT book of all the 2010 vehicle laws. he reads a section and he looks up at me and says....
"well this only matters if the exhaust is sticking out the side and since yours is straight up and down its LEGAL"
Me: thank you so thats it i just got to mail it back with 25$ right?
Officer: yup
so in all i think i win! i keep my pipes

court fees. even if the matter doesn't go to court.
in CA, when you get a fix-it ticket issued to you and you get it signed off by a peace officer, you still have to pay the darn $25 fee.

Thanks for the thread. I have an exhaust ticket right now and instead of getting it checked out, I am fighting the ticket via a written trial. If that doesn't work I'll have to visit the CHP and I'll take the same approach as you.

There was a law in Texas that would allow trucks to not be required to have mufflers if it had vertical stacks that extend something like 10" over the top of the cab..... I think it is still in effect.
