For what it's worth, the manual on my '07 states:

In other words, you've (probably) got more than 1.7 gallons left when the light turns on . . . (on a GD). But again, every car is going to be a little bit different. On mine, I typically drive 30-50 miles after my light turns on. I haven't had a chance to run it dry yet (with a spare gallon along for the ride) to see exactly how much room for error I've got. On my Prelude, I had almost exactly 65 highway miles (tested more than a few times). An '88 F-150 I drove for a summer could go at least 95 miles before sputtering out.

Just need to know when I should panic.
After I drove another 100 km (62 miles) after the needle was on the E line I filled up only 38l (10 US galons) so there was still 1 US galon of gas in the tank.
You can easily calculate expected mileage. All you need to know is mpg of the tank.
My computer is too optimistic for 0,3 dcl. So, 42l (11,1 US galons) devine 5.9l is 712 km. Test: with 4l (if the same mpg) you get out 66 km mileage. 66 km plus 646 km is 712 km, more or less.

1.202 +/- 0.190 US gallons remaining when Fuel Indicator first lights. No further data since I switched to fill ups at "H" starting with the 7th fill up.

US Fit is 10.6 gal per Honda.com's EPA spec (about 40L) vs. the 42L (11 US gal) for other markets.

Thanks for the data, but I can't quite figure out your table . . .

The problem that I see is that you're making a big assumption in that our tank is actually exactly 10.6 gallons. I've personally never saw much point in doing it, but there are many people here who regularly fill well past that point.

I hate to think of how many of these threads could be avoided if people would read that lovely little manual their car came with.

I have been filling the tank till to the neck. On a recent trip to San Diego, I put in 13.190 gallons into the tank of my '07 GD3.

I'm not sure about "clean fuel". My Harley-Davidson collected enough rust and muck in the fuel tanks to completely cover the bottom of the tank in 100,000 miles. I use the bike as an example as it is a fuel tank I can see inside of, and it has a "normal" and "reserve" supply, and only the "reserve" draws from the tank bottom. Maybe that's why sediment accumulates there. In any case, I try to avoid using "reserve" on the bike for that reason.

In a car, like the Fit, the sediment doesn't really get a chance to hang around the tank very long, as it would be drawn off and caught by the fuel filter.

Not sure what point you're not sure of, but I agree with what you say. The FIT does nave a flat bottom tank right under the front seat. Remove the console and you can access it.

I knew an old lady that would never let her tank get below 1/2 full and often topped it off when it was still 3/4 full. That's extreme but so is banking on ~45 miles after your light goes on. Haven't you ever heard of traffic? Detours? Gas station out of fuel? What if you take ill at the 44 mile mark? You are going to drive yourself to the gas station before you head for the hospital? Let me take a wild guess here: some of you guys are BP drilling safety engineers.

The Owner's Manuals and Honda's website indicate 10.6gal/40L or 11gal/42L depending on market. The manual saying 1.64gal/6.2L before low fuel indicator has not been accurate for where, when, and how I fill up.

I let the pump run by itself until it stops the first time; I do not overfill. I normally fill up before my home-bound commute; ~75-80F. Despite that, and as expected, there is still a large difference (about 0.6 gallon) between the min/max of gallons until indicator & gallons remaining.

I don't know of a way to columnize or retain formatting spaces in this forum... Here's one data point simplified:

46 mi, starting mileage (full tank)
322 mi, mileage when indicator first came on
337 mi, mileage when adding fuel
9.595 gal fuel pumped

337-46=291 mi driven on tank
291/9.595=30.3 MPG
322-46=276 mi driven until indicator
276/30.3=9.10 gal until indicator

10.6-9.10=1.50 gal remaining until empty
or
capacity-9.10=gal remaining until empty

lol someone busted out the biostatistics, its only missing Confidence Interval 95% you might need to throw that into multivariate logistic regression to account for the confounders we are unsure of.

When I refill sometimes I get it to go all the way up to 10.5 gallons on the pump.

Biostatistics? I thought it was obvious I was assuming a gaussian distribution, so 95% confidence = 2*stdev. I doubt I could do much more with just my limited data set.
